Cake Town and Cooler’s real-time card battler, set inside a shattered Moon, arrives December 2, 2026 on PC.

Night Machine finally has a launch date. Cake Town and Cooler used The MIX Fall Showcase 2026 on October 16th to confirm that their sci-fi deck-building cockpit shooter arrives in early December. The trailer that came with the date also shows how a hand of cards drives a spaceship.

Quick answer: Night Machine releases on December 2, 2026 on PC through Steam. No launch hour has been announced.

Because there’s no confirmed hour or time zone yet, the safest assumption is simply that the game unlocks sometime on December 2nd. PC is the only platform listed. No console versions have been announced.

What Night Machine is about

Night Machine is a real-time card battler. Its setup is pure retro sci-fi. Six months before the game begins, Earth’s Moon cracked open in a cataclysm and exposed an enormous machine that had been sleeping inside it. Your job is to fly a ship down to the core of that alien doomsday factory and switch it off for good.

The opening cinematic sets the tone. A pilot in a gold, mirror-visored helmet sits at a chunky desk while an old CRT monitor shows the broken Moon. Once the game itself starts, you never leave the cockpit. Everything is seen from the pilot’s seat.

Night Machine’s card interface: flying a ship with a deck

The ship comes “equipped with a card interface,” as the trailer cheerfully puts it. Instead of separate buttons for throttle and guns, the dashboard has card slots. You drop cards into those slots to supply energy, boost the reactor, fire weapons and manage heat, all while enemies move in real time in front of you.

In the early piloting footage, a Reactor Boost card and a Basic Energy card sit in the slots to charge up a shot at a target under the crosshair. The HUD also tracks a heat gauge, hull and armor bars, lock-on markers and floating damage numbers.

Cards seen across the trailer include:

  • Basic Energy and Reactor Boost, for powering the ship
  • Hot Reload, Strengthen Weapons and Interrupt, offered in a pack draft
  • Magic Smoke and Overheat, which show up during high-heat fights
  • Minor Edit, CPU Churn and Recycled Battery
  • Advanced Repairs, shown mid-battle

Deck building, ship mods and route choices between fights

Between encounters, Night Machine plays like a run-based deck builder. You open a Program Pack and pick one new card from a small selection. In the trailer, that choice is between Hot Reload, Strengthen Weapons and Interrupt. Booster Packs also appear in the inventory.

The ship itself is customizable too. A Cargo Drop screen lays out the hull, equipment slots and loot. Gear such as a Basic Cannon, Heavy Armor and Thinnest Armor appears there. A separate Select Ship Mods menu offers upgrade chips such as Hull Mod I, Cash Back I and Party Balloon I.

Navigation works on a branching node map, so you pick your own path toward the Moon’s core. Each node is labeled by what waits there. One node reads “Dangerous Entity” with a danger rating of medium, which suggests you can weigh how risky a stop is before you commit to it.

Heat, crashes and finding the flow

Combat in Night Machine pushes back hard. The trailer flashes “CRASH” and “BURN” over footage of ships breaking apart and a cockpit full of rising heat gauges and alarms. Play too many cards too quickly, and the ship overheats and takes serious damage. That makes heat management a constant risk-versus-reward trade.

The last stretch of gameplay leans the other way. Under the banner “AND FIND THE FLOW,” cards chain together rapidly as the ship blasts enemies inside glowing tunnels. Repair cards keep the hull alive in the middle of the action.

Night Machine demo and Steam wishlist

You don’t have to wait until December to try it. The showcase version of the trailer ends with “DEMO AVAILABLE NOW!” alongside the release date. Night Machine can also be wishlisted on Steam, so you get a reminder when it launches on December 2nd.

Once the game is on your wishlist, the Steam store page shows it as wishlisted instead of offering the add button. That’s the quickest way to confirm the reminder is set before the December 2nd launch.
