Nodusfall is a dark fantasy co-op action game from HoYoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. It made its first public appearance with a world-premiere trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, and it looks nothing like the studio’s anime-styled catalog. You play a Weaver, fighting through a broken world alongside other players to bring down enormous creatures.

Quick answer: Nodusfall is an early-in-development, co-op-focused dark fantasy action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. There is no confirmed release date, and HoYoverse has not officially confirmed platforms. The Gamescom trailer is the only official look so far.

What Nodusfall is and who you play

Nodusfall puts you in the role of a Weaver, a character who moves through a world where divine authority has collapsed and the old order has fallen apart. The land is dangerous, scattered with powerful enemies and the leftover remains of divine power.

Your goal goes beyond simply killing monsters. You gather the powers left behind by fallen deities and use them to help rebuild some form of order. HoYoverse frames the game around forging bonds with companions, standing together against massive foes, and seizing whatever divinity remains.

Co-op combat and boss fights

Combat is the core of Nodusfall. You team up with other Weavers to take on large enemies, and the fights look far heavier than HoYoverse’s usual action. The trailer shows sword fighting, stamina management, and several players joining forces against a single giant creature.

Rather than attacking without pause, encounters appear to reward timing, dodging, positioning, and managing your stamina. That approach draws obvious comparisons to Monster Hunter’s team hunts and the cooperative structure of Elden Ring Nightreign. Players will likely need to avoid attacks and find openings together instead of relying on raw damage.

Note: HoYoverse has not confirmed the exact party size or the full details of how the multiplayer system works.

The trailer’s creatures and world

HoYoverse leaned into scale for the reveal. The footage features a towering dragon and phoenix, wolves roaming the land, a giant titan with its head wrapped in flames, and a massive muscular figure hammering at an anvil. The environments are wide and open, framed to make the players exploring them look small.

The overall look is a realistic, high-fantasy style closer to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring than to a brightly colored anime world. It marks a clear departure from the studio’s established art direction.

Engine and how it differs from other HoYoverse games

Nodusfall is built in Unreal Engine 5, not the Unity engine that powers HoYoverse’s other major titles. That technical choice supports the more grounded, high-fidelity lighting and physics the game is going for.

Release date and platforms

There is no release date for Nodusfall. HoYoverse has not confirmed a launch window, and it has not officially confirmed the full platform list either. The game is described as early in development, so many concrete details remain open.

Any specific release date or platform claim circulating outside of an official HoYoverse announcement should be treated as speculation. For now, the Gamescom world-premiere trailer is the only official material.

If the combat holds up in play and the co-op design comes together, Nodusfall could become a strong option for people who want a HoYoverse game to run with friends. The real test will come whenever the studio shares hands-on gameplay and firm launch details.
