NTE Miles Apart: Correct Items for Each Memory Door

NTE Miles Apart: Correct Items for Each Memory Door

The memory puzzle near the end of Miles Apart (the Lights On anomaly in Neverness to Everness) asks you to hand over a specific keepsake at four portals arranged around a central room. Each portal represents one of Patty's childhood memories, and only one item per portal will advance the scene.

Quick answer: Bedtime memory uses The Fox and the Swing (New), the plush toy memory uses the Mended Teddy Bear, the baking memory uses the Cake Recipe, and the painting memory uses Patty's Design Draft.

The four correct items for each memory portal

Once you read the letter by the vase upstairs and follow the warped hallway, you arrive at a circular space with four framed portals. Step into one, place the matching item at the center, and return to pick the next portal. The order does not matter, only the pairing.

Memory portalCorrect item
Bedtime (storybook)The Fox and the Swing (New) — the green picture book
Plush toyMended Teddy Bear (the repaired red one)
Baking (cake)Cake Recipe (the yellow sticky note from the fridge)
Painting (easel)Patty's Design Draft

Submitting the wrong object will not progress the memory, so make sure you are choosing the upgraded versions where applicable. The teddy bear must be the mended one, not the tattered or damaged variants you can find lying around, and the storybook must be the newer copy from the locked cabinet, not the worn one on the desk.

Where each item comes from

All four items require switching between the present (sunny) and past (dark, rainy) timelines using Tungsten's Switch. A few collectibles in Patty's house are flavor only and do nothing for the puzzle, so focus on the four below.

The Fox and the Swing (New). In the past, head upstairs and rummage through the Dirty Clothes in the bathroom to get A Key. Swap back to the present and use that key on the locked glass cabinet in the back-right bedroom to take the green storybook.

Mended Teddy Bear. In the past, grab the Damaged Red Teddy Bear from the cupboard near the bedroom window (not the one in the hallway). Switch to the present, go downstairs, and use the Household Toolbox next to the record player to repair it.

Cake Recipe. Stay in the past and check the sticky note on the kitchen fridge. It looks like a small yellow paper and registers as a separate item from the "100 Healthy Meals Kids Love" recipe book on the counter.

Patty's Design Draft. Pick up the Paint Can from the floor of the back-right room upstairs while in the past. Switch to the present and hand the red paint to Patty out in the yard. She gives you the design draft in return.

⚠️
Before the portal room opens, you also need to talk to little Patty on the living room sofa in the past. She will throw you out. Switch to the present, head upstairs, and interact with the glowing vase next to the bathroom to trigger the letter and the distorted hallway.

How to know it worked

After each correct submission, the portal plays a short memory cutscene, and you can step back into the central area to try another frame. Once all four are completed, the little girl points at the blue mirror in the middle. Step through it to start the combat sequence against the enemies from the past.

You will fight through several waves, moving forward by walking into the wall mirror with a streak of light after each clear. The encounter is tuned around character level 20 or so, with enemies in the low 20s. Finish the final room, speak to little Patty, and she hands over the Burnt Hair Clip, which is your cue that the memory chain is done.

Common reasons the portal won't accept your item

  • You submitted the Damaged Red Teddy Bear instead of the Mended Teddy Bear. The toolbox repair step is mandatory.
  • You submitted The Fox and the Swing (Old) from the desk instead of the (New) copy from the locked cabinet.
  • You picked the recipe book on the counter instead of the sticky note stuck on the fridge door.
  • You haven't given the Paint Can to Patty yet, so the design draft is not in your inventory.

After the fight and the hair clip handover to adult Patty by the TV, the quest continues into the second-floor storage room and ends with delivering the mother's letter back in the present. Returning to Tungsten at the exhibition hall closes out Miles Apart, and any dialogue choice you pick during his recap is purely flavor.
