Once Human: Director Fox Changes Explained and Best Farming Location

What the Director Fox buff rework does to taming and breeding, plus the exact dungeon that drops it.

What the Director Fox buff rework does to taming and breeding, plus the exact dungeon that drops it.

Director Fox is the A-grade Territory Deviation built around ranching in Once Human. It was added with the 2.2.0 update and has since become the default pick for anyone running a serious animal setup, because it touches both taming speed and breeding output. A balance pass is changing what half of that package does, and the Deviation is still worth chasing afterwards.

Quick answer: Defeat the final boss, Empty House, in Securement Silo – PSI (Red Sands – Vulture Valley, recommended level 45) on Hard or higher. The Deviation is a chance drop, so expect repeat runs.

Director Fox ability changes: taming speed replaced by lower energy use

The Deviation’s territory ability is Taming Expert. In its current form it does two things at once. Animals in your territory have a chance to produce an additional offspring when breeding, which consumes one Fine Meat per extra birth, and all animals in the territory tame faster. That taming speed portion stacks up to 100 percent if you place several Director Foxes, and it only applies while you are online.

The balance change removes the taming speed bonus and puts a maintenance effect in its place. Bred animals consume up to 20 percent less energy, so they need topping up less often. That new effect does not stack, so a second or third fox adds nothing to it. The extra offspring chance is untouched.

EffectCurrentAfter the change
Taming speedUp to 100% with multiple foxes, online onlyRemoved
Energy use for bred animalsUp to 20% lower, does not stack
Extra offspringChance on breeding, costs 1 Fine MeatUnchanged

No official date has been confirmed for when the reworked ability goes live. If you currently run several Director Foxes purely for the stacked taming speed, that stacking value disappears once the change lands.

Best farming location: Securement Silo – PSI in Red Sands

The reliable route is the dungeon. Securement Silo – PSI sits in the Red Sands – Vulture Valley area with a recommended level of 45, and its final boss, Empty House, can drop Director Fox in Manibus and The Way of Winter on Hard mode or above. The drop is not guaranteed on a clear, so treat it as a repeatable run rather than a single trip.

There is a second option in the Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve scenario, where Director Fox spawns in the open world rather than behind a boss. It appears across the Blackheart Region and Lonewolf Wastes, and it will only fight back if you attack it first. A Deviation’s starting level depends on where you catch it, and the map shows each area’s level.

How to run Securement Silo – PSI for the Director Fox drop

Travel to Securement Silo – PSI in Red Sands – Vulture Valley and set the difficulty to Hard or higher before entering. Lower difficulties will not put Director Fox in the reward pool.
Push through the entry corridors and clear the Rosetta soldiers along the way. When you reach the sealed security door, use the Rosetta V3 Access Card on the keypad to open it and continue into the tunnels.

The route opens into a cafeteria packed with Rosetta troops. Clear the room completely, since the exit door stays locked until the area is empty.
In the laser hallway, jump onto the yellow crates against the right-hand wall and glide over the first set of tripwires. Roll under the remaining beams to reach the far end without taking damage.
Enter the snowy cavern and fight Empty House. Destroy the four anomaly generators placed around the arena, ideally from raised ground with a sniper rifle, and be ready for a long fight against a boss with a large health pool and heavy area damage.

Once the Victory screen appears, head to the glowing loot crate and the rift beside it. If Director Fox is part of the drop, it appears floating next to the rift and you can secure it there. If it does not show up, reset and run the silo again.

Securement environment: Blue Light, Toy and Flowers

Place Director Fox in a Securement Unit inside your territory for the territory ability to work at all. The environment around that unit controls how fast its Deviant Power and Mood regenerate, and Director Fox has three preferences.

  • Blue Light — build the matching Circular Light from the Furniture menu, unlocked through Basic Furniture II under Building in the Memetics Cradle.
  • Toy — buy the furniture formula with Starchrom from the Season Shop under Furniture Formula One, or find one through exploration.
  • Flowers — plant flower seeds in loamy soil near the unit. Planting is unlocked under Logistics in the Memetics Cradle.

Green Light, placing the unit near crops and Music are all marked as non-preferences for this Deviation, so they do nothing for its regeneration.

If you would rather keep the flowers in a tidier footprint, Planter Boxes work as an alternative to open loamy soil and are unlocked in the same Logistics branch.

How to confirm Director Fox is working in your territory

Open the Securement Pod interface after placing the Deviation. A working setup shows Director Fox in the pod with its Skill Rating, Activity Rating and Fusion Chances listed, along with a Deviant Power value and a Mood value climbing toward their maximums. Its traits, such as Cheer Up II, appear on the same panel.

The Securement Environment section of that panel is the fastest check on your room layout. Blue Light, Toy and Flowers should be ticked as satisfied once the matching objects are nearby, and anything still unmarked is regeneration you are leaving on the table.

The extra offspring effect consumes one Fine Meat each time it triggers. If your storage runs dry, the bonus birth simply does not happen, even with a fully powered Director Fox in the pod.

One fox is enough once the rework lands, since neither the extra offspring chance nor the new energy reduction benefits from stacking. Until then, extra copies still add taming speed while you are online, so anyone mid-way through building a ranch has a short window where farming a second Empty House drop is worth the time.
