All 7 Oni Armament Locations in Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Every Oni Armament chest, plus the two handed to you automatically, for the Oni Armory trophy.

Oni Armaments are the special weapons Musashi powers with blue souls, and collecting all seven unlocks the Oni Armory trophy and achievement in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Two of them are handed to you by the story, so only five actually need hunting down. None of them are missable.

Quick answer: Pick up the Oni Bow (Oni Refuge) and Wind-Whipper (story reward), then loot the chests holding The Two Celestials at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Earth-Shakers on Underground Level 4, the Firebird Flute south of Gojo Street – East, Flashing Void in Mount Oe’s Castle Courtyard, and Still Water in the Arashiyama Swamp.

Set yourself up before hunting Oni Armaments

Free roam stays open right up to the point of no return before the final mission, “The Clash At Rendaino.” Anything you skipped during the story can be cleaned up from there, and after the credits you can select Continue from the main menu to be dropped back in front of that mission again.

Spend Oni Stones on Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2, and Oni Vision: Search Range as early as you can afford them. With all three unlocked, holding L2/LT and tapping R2/RT repeatedly marks nearby chests, which makes the armament chests far easier to spot in the larger areas.

The two Oni Armaments the story gives you

The Oni Bow sits in a chest on the main path through the Oni Refuge, shortly after you pass through the wall via the Oni Glyph. You cannot skip it, because the bow is what opens the gates and shoots the floating rock cores further along the route. It has unlimited ammunition and doubles as a puzzle tool for the rest of the game.

Wind-Whipper arrives during “The Oni’s Apprentice.” Once Takamura walks you through the Skills practice grounds and the Boss Rematch feature, he makes a chest appear and hands the twin-bladed naginata over along with some Mild Restoratives. There is no route to learn and nothing to search for here.

Where to find the five Oni Armament chests

The Two Celestials at Kiyomizu-dera Temple

This is the earliest one you can grab. While the objective is pointing you toward the high platform at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, deal with the second Thread Genma locking the second oni gate. Killing it releases a treasure chest that was being held in the threads, and The Two Celestials are inside along with crafting materials.

Earth-Shakers on Underground Level 4

Head into the Underground Laboratory and work down to Underground Level 4. The chest is in the room just past the fan puzzle, reached by crossing the platforms in that area. Opening it gives you the pair of Oni hammers.

Firebird Flute south of Gojo Street – East

Return to the spot where the Rift stood during the “Shadows Fall” mission, south of the Gojo Street – East spirit mirror near the Market. The chest sits in the open in front of a small shrine, so no fighting or platforming is needed once the Rift is gone.

Flashing Void in the Mount Oe Castle Courtyard

In the Castle Courtyard area of Mount Oe, look for the cave entrance you have to slide into. Run through the tunnel and the chest holding the lightning spear is waiting at the end.

Still Water in the Arashiyama Swamp

The last one is in the Swamp region of Arashiyama, in the northeast corner of the map. The chest is tucked into a ruined section of the swamp, and it contains the sword passed down from Oni to Oni.

What each Oni Armament does

Oni ArmamentEffect
The Two CelestialsDual blades that pull yellow souls from enemies they cut down
Oni BowRanged attacks with unlimited ammo; also triggers gates and rock cores
Wind-WhipperTwin-bladed naginata that whips up swirling winds against nearby foes
Earth-ShakersHammers that drain enemy stamina; can be charged for more power
Firebird FluteSummons flaming firebirds that can then be launched forward
Flashing VoidLightning spear with heavy health damage and a large red soul yield
Still WaterHeavy blows that extract purple souls from enemies

Still Water works a little differently from the rest. With the Oni Power Gauge filled far enough, press R3 to transform Musashi’s sword, then R2 to fire a shockwave that blasts enemies and pulls purple souls out of them. Parrying and attacking fills the Golden Wave Gauge, which extends the range of that wave.

Confirming the Oni Armory trophy unlocked

Oni Armory pops the moment you open the chest holding your seventh Oni Armament, so there is no separate menu step or turn-in. If it has not fired, the missing weapon is one of the five chests, because the Oni Bow and Wind-Whipper are both forced by the story and cannot be skipped.

Note: Oni Armaments count toward the 274 collectibles needed for 100 percent completion, alongside the Lion Dogs, Charms, Hozuki Pouches, and upgrade materials. Since Carnage difficulty only opens up in New Game+ after your first clear, you get a second full pass at any chest you somehow walked past.
