Onimusha: Way of the Sword now has a confirmed launch of Friday, 4 September 2026, moved three weeks ahead of its earlier 25 September date. The change is official from Capcom, applies to every platform at once, and comes with a few knock-on effects for pre-orders and demo bonuses you should handle before release.
Quick answer: Onimusha: Way of the Sword releases Friday, 4 September 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. If you pre-ordered the Switch 2 digital version, your order is cancelled and you must place a new one on the Nintendo eShop.

Release status and platforms
The launch is confirmed, not a window or a rumor. The game ships simultaneously across current-gen consoles, PC storefronts, and Switch 2. The Switch 2 version also supports Joy-Con 2 motion controls for attacks, aiming the Oni Bow, and triggering Oni Strength.

Add to Google Preferences →Pre-order bonus becomes an Early Purchase Bonus
Because the date moved forward, the digital pre-order bonus is now an Early Purchase Bonus. That means it stays available for a limited time after launch rather than only before it. The cut-off differs slightly by store.
| Store | Early Purchase Bonus available until |
|---|---|
| PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Nintendo Switch 2 | 24 September 2026, 23:59 |
| Steam, Epic Games Store | 26 September 2026, 00:59 BST |

Switch 2 pre-orders are cancelled: re-order on eShop
The date change automatically cancels existing pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 digital version. If you had one, you need to place a fresh order to secure the game and its bonus.
This cancellation only affects the Switch 2 digital version. Orders on the other platforms carry over.
Keep your demo save data for the launch bonus
A free demo is available now on all platforms. An update is planned for it as a result of the date change, but that update does not add any new content. Its purpose is to make sure early demo players still receive their bonus in the full game.
Do not delete the demo or its save data before 4 September 2026. Players who keep the save carry a bonus into the finished game. If you remove the demo or wipe the save, you lose that reward.
Why Capcom moved the date up
The old 25 September slot sat inside one of the busiest release weeks of the year. Control Resonant, Silent Hill Townfall, and several ports and definitive editions were all clustered around that same date, and Marvel’s Wolverine lands on 15 September. Pulling Onimusha to 4 September gives it clearer space in the calendar.
The new week is lighter but not empty. Onimusha: Way of the Sword now shares early September with The Blood of Dawnwalker and Orbitals, both on 3 September. A big part of the wider crowding comes from publishers steering clear of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set for 19 November 2026. The earlier launch simply moves Onimusha further from that end-of-year crush.

This is the first new mainline Onimusha since 2002, following the protagonist Musashi through an early Edo-period Kyoto warped by Malice, with the Issen timing mechanic and parries at the center of the combat. With a confirmed 4 September 2026 date, an active demo, and a straightforward re-order step for Switch 2, the main thing left to do is keep your save and lock in a pre-order before the Early Purchase Bonus window closes.
