Najuma has lost another argument with her father about going into the mines, and she has decided to answer him with a project instead of a comeback. Louder Than Words is her Friendship Quest, and it asks for exactly two materials: leather for the body of a safety suit, and silk thread to stitch it together. The leather is trivial if you have gold. The silk thread is where most players stall, because it only comes off high-rarity bugs.
Quick answer: Reach Friendship Level 2 with Najuma, talk to her at your housing plot to start the quest, then bring her 5 Leather (bought at the Furniture Store register or crafted from Sernuk Hide on a Fabric Loom) and 2 Silk Thread (dropped by Rare or Epic bugs such as the Scintillating Centipede that spawns from mining nodes in Bahari Bay).
Louder Than Words unlock requirement and quest summary
The quest becomes available once Najuma hits Friendship Level 2: Shy Acquaintance. It does not appear from a bulletin board or a mail item. Najuma comes to you, showing up at your plot to complain about Hodari and to show off the design she has drawn for a safety suit. Accepting the conversation adds the objectives to your tracker.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Quest type | Villager Friendship Quest, given by Najuma |
| Unlock | Friendship Level 2: Shy Acquaintance |
| Starts with | Dialogue with Najuma at your plot |
| Required items (consumed) | 5 Leather, 2 Silk Thread |
| Optional objective | Ask Hodari about the fight |
| Turn-in | Dialogue with Najuma |
| Rewards | 20 Renown, 5 Copper Bar, 5 Iron Bar, friendship with Najuma |
| Leads into | Airtight Plan |
Both material objectives can be completed in any order, and the game counts anything already sitting in your inventory. If you happened to buy leather earlier for furniture crafting, that half of the quest can tick over the moment you accept it.

Add to Google Preferences →How to get 5 Leather in Palia
There are two routes, and one of them costs nothing but gold.
The fastest option is the register inside the Furniture Store, which stocks Leather directly. Buy five and this objective is done in under a minute. Najuma even acknowledges in her dialogue that store prices are steep, which is exactly why she is asking you rather than doing it herself.
The cheaper route is crafting. Leather is made from Sernuk Hide on a Fabric Loom, and the Fabric Loom unlocks at Furniture Making level 2. If you already hunt sernuks regularly you will likely have the hides banked, so this is mostly a question of whether the loom is built and free.
Note: the loom takes time to process, so start the leather crafting first, then go hunt bugs while it runs.
How to get 2 Silk Thread from Rare and Epic bugs
Silk Thread is not sold and is not a gathering drop. It comes from catching bugs of Rare or Epic quality, which means the common stinkbugs and butterflies you trip over in Kilima will not help. Bahari Bay is where you want to be.

Two bugs make this reliable:
| Bug | Where and how it appears |
|---|---|
| Scintillating Centipede | Spawns from mining nodes in Bahari Bay when you break them |
| Azure Stonehopper | Found in the fields of Southern Bahari Bay |
The centipede is the efficient one. A single catch yields four Silk Thread, which is double what the quest needs, and mining nodes in Bahari Bay are plentiful enough that you can chain several attempts in one loop. Foraging and mining as you travel also stirs up bug spawns generally, so keep swinging at nodes and bushes rather than running past them.

If nodes are not cooperating, sweep the open fields of Southern Bahari Bay for Azure Stonehoppers instead. Any Rare or Epic bug works, so a lucky catch of a different high-rarity insect can finish the objective just as well.
Should you ask Hodari about the fight?
The Hodari conversation is marked optional and it does not gate the quest or change the material requirements. What it does is unlock a different closing exchange with Najuma when you hand everything over.
Speak to Hodari and ask why Najuma is barred from the mines. He is blunt about it, saying the mines are dark and dangerous and that he does not need his own child working them. He also makes clear he is not changing his mind regardless of how upset she gets, and admits he is willing to be the villain if it keeps her safe. It is the piece of context that reframes the whole argument, and it costs you nothing but a walk over to him.
Turning in the materials to Najuma and confirming completion
Once both objectives are checked, the tracker switches to “Return to Najuma.” She tells you to drop by Bahari when you have the supplies, so head there and open dialogue with her.

Pick the option that matches what you did. Handing over the materials alone gets a short, grateful reply and she heads off to start work. If you also spoke to Hodari, you get the extended version where she flinches, decides she does not want to hear what he said, and thanks you anyway.
You will know it worked when the 5 Leather and 2 Silk Thread disappear from your inventory, the quest clears from your tracker, and the reward popup appears.
Louder Than Words rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Renown | 20 |
| Copper Bar | 5 |
| Iron Bar | 5 |
| Friendship with Najuma | 20 points |
The bars are the practical payout here, since ten refined metal bars save you a meaningful amount of smelting time early on. The friendship points matter more in the long run, because they push Najuma toward her next Friendship Quest, Airtight Plan, which picks the safety suit thread back up.
Why the quest does not complete
- You are catching common or uncommon bugs. Only Rare and Epic bugs drop Silk Thread, so quantity of catches will not substitute for rarity.
- You have Sernuk Hide but no Fabric Loom. The loom requires Furniture Making level 2 before it can be crafted and used to turn hide into leather.
- Your materials are sitting in storage rather than your inventory. Carry the leather and silk thread on you when you talk to Najuma.
Handled efficiently, the whole thing is a single Bahari Bay trip: buy or craft the leather before you leave, break mining nodes until a Scintillating Centipede shows itself, detour to Hodari for the fuller ending, then find Najuma and hand it over.
