Astralym is the alien Pal at the center of Palworld’s 1.0 story, and the boss you face at the end is not really a monster on its own. The creature you fight in the World Tree is “Zenara & Astralym,” a fusion of an ancient human researcher and the calamity she tried to protect. That pairing is the hidden truth the whole campaign builds toward.
Quick answer: Astralym is a life-draining alien Pal that crashed onto the Palpagos Islands by comet. Researcher Zenara merged her body with it to shield it, which unleashed an uncontrolled drain that wrecked the ancient civilization. You defeat the fused “Zenara & Astralym” in the Sealed Sanctum to finish the story.

What Astralym is in Palworld 1.0
Astralym is Paldeck entry #204, a World Tree Dragon-type Pal added in the 1.0 release. It is a story boss, not a companion. You cannot catch it, it does not spawn in the wild, it is not an alpha boss, and beating it does not hand you a copy. It exists only as the final encounter.
You fight it inside the Sealed Sanctum on the World Tree map. Clearing it on Normal difficulty unlocks a Hard version of the same fight, and you can rematch it whenever you want afterward. The two boss forms carry the names Nullstar Calamity and Blightstar Calamity, both listed as “Zenara & Astralym.”
Its Paldeck description sums up the tragedy behind it: “A shadow of its former self, this mysterious Pal descended upon the Palpagos long ago. Bringing ruin and calamity, it was sealed away for millennia until it was ultimately defeated by a certain Pal Tamer.” A second line, spoken as Astralym, reads: “I never wanted to hurt anyone. I just wanted to be together, just wanted to be there.”

The Palpagos Islands sit hidden on Earth, wrapped in a protective fog tied to the World Tree. More than a thousand years ago an advanced civilization lived here and worshipped Pals. That civilization was undone by a single arrival.
A comet crashed near the World Tree carrying Astralym, then a young alien Pal. Astralym naturally pulls life energy from everything around it. That drain weakened the land and its creatures, including Auri, an ancient being who has watched over the islands for centuries as the tower boss of Sunreach.
The researcher Zenara studied Astralym and grew attached to it. When the ancient council moved to neutralize the Pal, Zenara chose to sacrifice her own body to protect it. The merge went wrong. Instead of shielding Astralym, it triggered a massive, uncontrolled energy drain that tore the civilization apart.

How Astralym was sealed away
The survivors could not destroy the fused calamity, so they locked it up instead. Auri, the legendary Pals, and the remaining humans sealed Zenara and Astralym away, using the five towers scattered across the islands as the keys that hold the seal shut.
To keep the World Tree out of reach, Auri and the Elder Panthalas raised a barrier around it. That effort cost the Elder its life, leaving only a single surviving Panthalas child. The fog you see everywhere is part of the same containment, trapping the islands as much as it hides them.
The tower guardians you meet today
Centuries passed, and the true purpose of the towers was forgotten. Separate cultures grew up around each one, and each appointed a Tower Guardian to protect it, never realizing they were guarding pieces of a seal. These are the bosses you clear on the way to the endgame.
| Guardian | Role |
|---|---|
| Auri (with Shaolong) | Ancient being and final tower boss of Sunreach |
| Saya | Tower boss of Sakurajima, who senses the world is dying |
| Victor | Ancient warrior and tower boss of Faybreak |
| Zoe | Tower guardian |
| Marcus | Tower guardian |

Your role and the final fight
Auri long ago fell into slumber, but not before foretelling that a human hero would arrive to end the calamity. Your character is that prophesied figure. You wake up on the beach with no memory, holding a tablet that reads, “The towers are the key… the tree holds the truth.”
To reach Astralym, you clear the tower guardians one by one, which loosens the seal. The surviving Panthalas child then helps you slip past the barrier around the World Tree. Inside the Sealed Sanctum you face and defeat Zenara and Astralym, closing out the main storyline.
Note: The victory is not clean. After the fight, you wake up back on the starting beach; the fog is still intact, and the World Tree remains drained. The threat is beaten, but the world it damaged has not been healed, which is the deliberate cliffhanger the campaign ends on.

What the ending sets up for Update 1.1
The unresolved fog and the still-dying World Tree are clearly seeds for more story. Pocketpair has said the World Tree marks the end of this particular journey but not the end of Palworld, and work on a follow-up update has been teased through the studio’s own planning sessions for version 1.1.
No official date or details for the next major story update are confirmed right now, so treat anything beyond the current cliffhanger as open. What is certain is that Astralym’s defeat left the core mystery, the fog, and the drained tree deliberately unfinished, giving the next chapter an obvious place to pick up.
