Palworld 1.0: Best Lumbering Pals for Wood and Fiber

The highest-level loggers in the 1.0 roster, where to catch them, and how to push any of them to Lumbering Level 10.

The highest-level loggers in the 1.0 roster, where to catch them, and how to push any of them to Lumbering Level 10.

Lumbering controls how fast a Pal chops trees and how much Wood and Fiber piles up at your Logging Site. Wood is one of the earliest bottlenecks in Palworld, so a high-level logger keeps your builders supplied without you swinging an axe yourself. In 1.0, every work suitability runs on a 1 to 10 scale, which means a Pal at Lumbering 8 clears timber far faster than one stuck at Lumbering 2.

Quick answer: Celesdir Noct is the best Lumbering Pal at base Level 8, and it only needs a 3-star Pal Essence Condenser to reach the Level 10 cap. Catch it in the World Tree area of Feybreak, or breed it from two Celesdir Nocts.

The Pals below are ordered by their base Lumbering suitability, the number that decides raw chopping speed. Secondary jobs matter too, since a Pal with no other work type never wanders off logging duty, while a dual-purpose worker can cover two stations at once.

Celesdir Noct and Celesdir: the top two loggers

Celesdir Noct sits at Lumbering 8, the highest base logging value any Pal can reach right now. It carries only two work types, Lumbering 8 and Gathering 4, so it won’t drift off to mining or handiwork when you need Wood. That focus, plus the shortest climb to the cap at just a 3-star condenser, makes it the clear number one.

You can find Celesdir Noct on the left-most side of the World Tree, northwest of the Gilded City Ruins Watchtower in Feybreak, where it appears as a Field Alpha Boss around Level 79. It isn’t tower-locked. If you would rather breed one, pair Kitsun Noct with Celesdir, or two Celesdir Nocts together, for a Large Dark Egg.

Regular Celesdir is one rung lower at Lumbering 7 with the same Gathering 4, and it’s a solid stand-in while you hunt for a Noct. It shows up as a rare wild spawn across several Feybreak zones, including Scorched Hill, the Loess Plains, and Frozen Coral Hill, with an Alpha version roaming near the Crystalized Ancient Tree. Breeding also works, crossing Gildane with Eikthyrdeer Terra for a Large Common Egg. It needs a 4-star condenser to hit Level 10, one star more than the Noct, but it’s a much shorter chase to actually land.

Hartalis: the dual logging and gathering worker

Hartalis matches Celesdir at Lumbering 7, but its real value is Gathering 7 on top of that. One Hartalis can staff two stations instead of you catching and feeding two specialists. The trade-off is access. It never spawns in the overworld, so you obtain it by summoning at a Summoning Altar with a Hartalis Slab or Hartalis Slab (Ultra) and beating the King of Salvation raid that spawns, then hatching the Large Common Egg you receive. Once you have one, breeding two Hartalis together works too.

Note: Hartalis cannot be pushed to Level 10 through the Pal Essence Condenser, so it stays at its base Lumbering 7 unless you feed it Handbooks. It’s still worth targeting as a premium gatherer and one of the best ground mounts in the game.

Silvegis, Cryolinx Terra, Bastigor and Mammorest Cryst

Silvegis logs at Lumbering 6 and has no other work suitability at all, which is a feature rather than a flaw. It will never get pulled off logging to gather berries or hammer at a bench. It appears as an Alpha around Scorched Hill, hits hard, and attacks on sight, and it also hatches from a Huge Dragon Egg. A 4-star condenser takes it to Level 10.

Cryolinx Terra also sits at Lumbering 6, but it adds Mining 5, Transporting 4, and Handiwork 2, making it a flexible mid to late-game pick. You can find it around the Scorched Plateau, directly south of Mount Obsidian.

Bastigor is another Lumbering 6 worker, and it doubles as the best Cooling Pal in the game at Cooling 8 with Mining 5. It only turns up in the end-game World Tree region, so treat it as a late upgrade rather than an early catch. Necromus and Paladius, the legendary field bosses, also land at Lumbering 6 if you already have them.

When those are out of reach, Mammorest Cryst carries a logging camp through the mid game at Lumbering 5, alongside Cooling 5 and Mining 4. It spawns around the Astral Mountains in the north. The base Mammorest, found across the starting islands, sits at Lumbering 4 with Mining 4 and Planting 4.

Partner skills that boost Lumbering

Some Pals help logging without staffing a station themselves. Eikthyrdeer Terra is the key one for a base. While it’s assigned to your base, its partner skill raises the Lumbering suitability of every other base Pal by +1, and the effect does not stack. You can catch it at Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1, near coordinates (57, -633). It only carries Lumbering 2 on its own, so keep it around for the aura rather than the chopping.

For hauling wood in the field, two Pals stand out. The regular Eikthyrdeer boosts your Lumbering efficiency by 220 to 500 percent while you ride it. Gumoss, which you can catch almost immediately after spawning in, raises Lumbering efficiency by 30 to 50 percent in your party and cuts the weight of collected Wood by 40 to 60 percent, which makes early hauls far easier even though it only has Planting 1.

How to reach Lumbering Level 10

Level 10 is the hard ceiling, and any Pal can technically get there through two routes. The first is the Applied Lumbering Handbook, a consumable that raises a specific Pal’s Lumbering stat. These books are rare, sold by Medal Merchants for 300 Dog Coins and occasionally found in Treasure Boxes. The second is the Pal Essence Condenser, where each rank-up raises one of a Pal’s existing work levels and reaching maximum rank raises all of them.

A higher base level simply means fewer stars or books to close the gap. That’s why Celesdir Noct’s 3-star path to the cap beats every other logger’s climb. Because condensing raises an existing suitability, a specialist like Silvegis or Celesdir with no competing jobs is the most reliable choice to funnel stars into Lumbering.

Where Lumbering Pals actually work

Lumbering mainly powers the Logging Site, where assigned Pals harvest Wood so you don’t have to build your base inside a forest. The upgraded Logging Site II works the same way, and both accept a worker at Lumbering Level 1 or higher, with faster output the higher the level. Lumbering Pals will also clear any trees that spawn naturally inside your base, handy when you want a clean building area.

The Stump and Axe is a separate piece of the puzzle. It doesn’t need a worker itself. Instead it passively speeds up every Lumbering task at your base, so it stacks with your loggers to grow the Wood pile even faster. Build one before you go hunting for the perfect roster. And if you need Fiber, feed Wood into a Crusher, which returns 2 Fiber per Wood as long as a Watering Pal is powering it.

Start with Gumoss and a ridden Eikthyrdeer to speed up early hauling, drop an Eikthyrdeer Terra at your base for the +1 aura, then graduate to Celesdir or Silvegis as you push into Feybreak. Once Celesdir Noct joins the roster and you star it up to Level 10, your Logging Site will fill the storage box faster than most builds can spend it.
