Palworld 1.0 Update Drives Its Steam Player Count Toward 1 Million

The July 10 full release has lifted concurrent players from about 58,000 to nearly a million, the game's biggest surge since early 2024.

The July 10 full release has lifted concurrent players from about 58,000 to nearly a million, the game’s biggest surge since early 2024.

Palworld is having its second explosive moment. After exiting early access with its 1.0 release on July 10, 2026, the creature-collecting survival game shot back up the Steam charts, and its concurrent player count is now brushing against the one-million mark. It is a scale of return that few games ever manage two and a half years after launch.

Quick answer: Palworld’s 1.0 update pushed its Steam concurrent peak to roughly 961,000, up from about 58,000 the week before launch, making it Steam’s second-most-played title behind Counter-Strike 2 and its highest point since early 2024.

How high the Palworld player count has climbed

Before the 1.0 patch, Palworld was still a healthy game, peaking around 50,000 to 58,000 players during busy hours. That is a solid figure for a two-year-old title, and it occasionally spiked higher after major updates. Once 1.0 dropped, the numbers changed completely.

The game jumped to about 500,000 concurrent players almost immediately, climbed to a weekend peak of 855,525, then continued to 921,485, and has since reached roughly 961,000. That places it directly behind Counter-Strike 2 as the most-played game on the platform.

MomentSteam concurrent players
Late June 2026 (pre-1.0 peak)~58,000
1.0 launch, July 10~500,000
Launch weekend peak855,525
Following days921,485
Recent high~961,000
January 2024 early access peak2,101,867

That represents a jump of more than 1,500 percent over its pre-update peak. The rise has been accompanied by climbing user reviews, a sign that returning players are responding well rather than bouncing off. Because the game also runs on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Game Pass, the true total across all platforms is well above the Steam figure alone.

What the developer said about the surge

Pocketpair’s community and communications lead John “Bucky” Buckley called the response “staggering” on social media, adding that the studio had high internal expectations for 1.0 but that the reaction went well beyond them.

The official Palworld account followed up as the count crossed 850,000, thanking players and noting that the Palpagos Islands were once again crowded with Pal Tamers.

What the 1.0 update added

The 1.0 patch is the largest in Palworld’s history, so big that its full changelog exceeded Steam’s posting limits. Existing save data carries over, so returning players do not need to restart.

The headline additions center on the World Tree, the giant landmark that had been sealed behind a red barrier since the game launched. It now opens up as the primary endgame region, home to tougher enemies, new resources, and Palworld’s first proper narrative arc built around the history of the Palpagos Islands. Floating above the map are the Sunreach sky islands, each with their own Pals and materials.

Wildlife Sanctuaries and No-Hunting Zones were also redesigned with distinct terrain, rare Pals, and dedicated bosses, and systems such as Awakening and Mutations give Pals more depth. In keeping with the ongoing legal situation, Pokémon-style evolutions remain off the table, and several existing Pals received minor visual redesigns.

How this compares to the 2024 launch

Palworld’s early access debut in January 2024 was one of the biggest launches in gaming, peaking at 2,101,867 concurrent Steam players. That figure remains among the highest ever recorded on the platform. The 1.0 surge does not reach that mark, but it lands the game inside Steam’s all-time top tier for concurrent peaks again, sitting near the level it last touched in early 2024.

Note: The recent numbers came in during a weekend that overlapped with the World Cup final, which likely held the count back. Whether Palworld pushes past a million from here depends on how many of those viewers return once the match is over.

How to jump in during the launch discount

Pocketpair did not raise the price for 1.0, and a launch discount makes it cheaper still. Palworld is 30 percent off through Thursday, July 23, bringing it to $20.99 / £17.49. The update is free for anyone who already owns the game, on Steam and on other platforms alike.

The background legal fight has not disrupted any of this. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s patent case against Pocketpair is still active in Tokyo, with the presentation of evidence expected in October, but no injunction has been granted and the game remains available everywhere. For now, the story is a small studio proving that its 2024 breakout was not a one-time spike, and that the audience was simply waiting for something this large to come back for.
