The fishing minigame in Palworld gets easier when the right Pals sit in the active party. Their Partner Skills change how the capture gauge starts, how fast it fills, how slowly it drains when you lose the fish, and what you walk away with after a catch.
Quick answer: Put Gloopie, Whalaska Ignis, Solmora Lux, and Jelliette in the party, then condense each one so its Partner Skill is at max rank.

Partner Skill ranks and stacking
Fishing bonuses only apply while the Pal is in the party. Extra copies of the same Pal do not stack. Two Gloopies will not slow the gauge twice, and a second Jelliette will not double your loot. Bring one Pal per job, then spend the duplicates.
Rank is what turns a small bump into a real one. Feed copies into a Pal Essence Condenser, or use Starfruits, to raise the star level. Breeding is the fastest way to gather those copies. At higher ranks, Gloopie’s drain penalty grows, the whale’s head start grows, and the jelly loot bonus climbs toward nearly double.
You know the ranks landed when a hook starts with the capture circle already partly filled, the circle falls more slowly after a miss, and a finished catch dumps more items than it did before the upgrade.

A finished squad is four jobs, not four of the same Pal. Use the stronger variant when you have it. Fall back to the base form until the late-game spawn or field boss is in reach.
| Pal | Job | Party bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Gloopie | Recovery window | Capture gauge drops 12–35% more slowly when the bars do not overlap |
| Whalaska Ignis | Head start and fill speed | Gauge starts 7–17% higher and fills that much faster on overlap |
| Whalaska | Earlier whale slot | Same job at 5–14% if Ignis is still locked |
| Solmora Lux | Talented Pals | Higher chance of strong Stat Potentials, especially at harder spots |
| Solmora | Earlier talent slot | Same job, a bit weaker than Lux |
| Jelliette | Fishing loot | Items from a catch rise 55–95% |
| Jellroy | Salvage only | Salvage items rise 55–95%; swap this in at magnet spots |
Whalaska, Whalaska Ignis, Solmora, and Solmora Lux can also be ridden on water, so the same party covers travel. Leftover party slots do not add a second copy of any of these bonuses.

Capture gauge bonuses
The capture gauge is the circle above the moving bars. It fills while your bar stays on the fish and empties when you lose contact. Gloopie and the whales are the only Pals that rewrite that math.
| Pal | Partner Skill | Rank 1 to 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Gloopie | Sticky Princess | 12 / 17 / 22 / 28 / 35% slower drain off the fish |
| Whalaska | Chilled Whale Cruiser | 5 / 7 / 9 / 11 / 14% start and overlap fill |
| Whalaska Ignis | Cozy Whale Cruiser | 7 / 9 / 11 / 13 / 17% start and overlap fill |
Gloopie is the Pal to raise first. Sticky Princess only helps when the bars are apart, which is exactly when a hard hook is about to fail. The skill does not stack with another Pal. Whalaska Ignis is the better whale. The regular Whalaska does the same job at a lower percentage and unlocks much earlier.
From rank 2 onward, both whales and both Solmora forms also gain swim speed at 10 / 14 / 18 / 25%. That does not change the minigame. It does make the ride between spots faster.
On the bar itself, park the marker toward the side with more open space so a sudden dart still has room. Use short taps instead of holding the input. When the fish pauses, realign before it moves again. A stray attack on the water can scare a shadow off, including a glowing one you wanted.

Talented Pal and item bonuses
Solmora’s Charming Fish and Solmora Lux’s Shocking Fish make talented Pals more likely while they are in the party. The skill text does not print a percentage. Lux is the stronger of the two. At an Advanced fishing spot, Lux more consistently produces a Stat Potential in the 80–100 range. Solmora more often lands in the 70–100 range and does so less reliably.
Spot tier matters as much as the Pal. Grand Master, Expert, and Advanced spots give high Stat Potentials more often when a Solmora is present. Beginner and Intermediate spots still miss more often and trend lower. Equip Ability Glasses or Pal Tamer Glasses if you want to read those hidden Attack, Defense, and Health bonuses on the Pal you just reeled in.
Jelliette’s Jelliette Drop raises items from fishing by 55 / 65 / 75 / 85 / 95%. Jellroy’s Jellroy Drop uses the same ranks, but only at salvage spots marked with a magnet. Jellroy does nothing for a normal Pal hook. If both jellies live at your base, each also waters faster. That base bonus is separate from the party loot bonus.
Solmora Lux has a combat extra when you ride it. Your attacks become Electric and Attack rises 5–20%. That does not help the fishing bar. Keep Lux in the party for the talent roll even if you ride the whale instead.

Where to get each fishing Pal
Every Pal on this squad can be hooked at a fishing spot or pulled from a Fishing Pond. A Large Fishing Pond can reach the late forms before you are ready to fight them in the overworld.
| Pal | Technology Level | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Gloopie | — | Small island east of Palpagos, Feybreak shores, night on Mount Obsidian and Sakurajima, or as a dungeon Alpha |
| Whalaska | 42 | Isle of the Glacial Core, Frozen Coral Hill by day, or hooked in southern Feybreak waters and near the Oil-Rig |
| Whalaska Ignis | 71 | Level 74 field boss on the east side of the World Tree, west of Whimsical Wisteria Grove; also Feybreak and No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary by day |
| Solmora | 65 | Sunreach lakes, including the southwest, the north, and the Sky Islands, plus World Tree lakes |
| Solmora Lux | 66 | Sunreach lakes and coastal water, plus World Tree lakes |
| Jelliette | — | Early island chains and the northern shores of Feybreak |
| Jellroy | — | Phantom Isle northwest of Mount Obsidian, plus the same early water routes |
Gloopie is Water and Dark. Whalaska is Ice and Water. Whalaska Ignis is Ice and Fire. Solmora is Water. Solmora Lux is Water and Electric.

Fishing rod and bait
The party changes the gauge math. The rod changes the size of the green bar you steer. A bigger bar is what makes Grandmaster shadows feel fair. Match the rod to the spot. A basic kit can still hook a hard Pal, but the bar will be too small to hold.
The Basic Fishing Set unlocks at Technology Level 15, the Intermediate Fishing Rod at 29, and the Advanced Fishing Rod at 45. Schematics also drop from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Grandmaster spots. The best rod is the Legendary Depresso Fishing Rod, a Gold-tier schematic with a very low drop rate. The Pengullet Advanced rod at level 45 is the practical stand-in while you farm that schematic.
| Rod | Crafting materials |
|---|---|
| Legendary Depresso Fishing Rod | 140 Paldium Fragments, 20 High Quality Pal Oil, 30 Pal Metal Ingots, 20 Carbon Fiber, 1 Coralum Ingot |
| Advanced Fishing Rod | 70 Paldium Fragments, 15 High Quality Pal Oil, 15 Pal Metal Ingots, 10 Carbon Fiber |
| Bait | Technology Level | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Bait | 15 | Standard casts. Crafted from 2 Pal Fluids, 4 Red Berries, and 2 Flour |
| High Quality Bait | 22 | Faster bites. Same capture bar. Crafted from 3 Pal Fluids, 4 Tomatoes, and 3 Flour |
| Deluxe Bait | 38 | Larger capture bar. Crafted from 4 Pal Fluids, 4 Onions, and 3 Flour |
| Alluring Bait | 52 | Larger bar and more items after a catch |
High Quality Bait only shortens the wait for a nibble. If you can stand a few extra seconds, Simple Bait is enough. Deluxe and Alluring are the baits that actually help the minigame. Use Alluring when you have it, especially on glowing shadows.

Fish shadow types
Shadow size hints at what can bite. It does not set minigame difficulty. Difficulty comes from the Pal you hook, its level compared with yours, and the glow on the water. Drop the camera so the water sits near the horizon. Beams and sparkles break that line more clearly than they do when you stare at your mount’s feet.
| Shadow | What the catch can be |
|---|---|
| No glow | A normal Pal, sometimes an Alpha or a useful passive |
| Purple sparkle | An Alpha Pal, with a chance at a gold passive and extra loot such as Ancient Civilization Parts |
| Green sparkles | A guaranteed rainbow passive |
| Purple geyser or beam | A shot at the Lunker passive |

Lunker raises Water damage, Ice damage, and Defense by 20%. That is the passive most worth stopping the boat for, and fishing is the cleanest way to find it. Feybreak Island around -1288, -1671 is a hard late route for rare aquatic Pals and materials, including giant shadow catches such as Whalaska. Waterfall Pond is a strong Master-tier stop for glowing Shadow Pals. Fisherman’s Point clusters several tiers in one place if you want a single camp for mixed casts.
Once Gloopie, the best whale you own, the best Solmora you own, and Jelliette are ranked and sitting in the party, the bar starts fuller, fails slower, and pays out better Pals. Swap Jellroy in only when you stop to salvage. That is the whole team.
