Palworld: How to Get Wispaw (Breeding Combos, Location, and Passive)

Wispaw is one of the 73 new Pals folded into Palworld with the 1.0 update, sitting at No. 50 in the Paldeck. It’s a Dark-type “phantom cat” that only appears after dark, carries a handy capture-rate partner skill, and doubles as a night-shift base worker. There are two ways to get it: hatch one from breeding or hunt it down in the wild.

Quick answer: Breed any confirmed pair to hatch a Large Dark Egg, or catch a wild Wispaw at night in the World Tree region (levels 71–73) or in the early grassland zones (levels 11–12). Bring a Dragon-type Pal, since Wispaw takes double damage from Dragon attacks.

Breed Wispaw from a Large Dark Egg

Breeding is the most reliable route because wild Wispaw hide in dangerous late-game territory. You need a Breeding Farm (unlocked at Level 19), a male and female parent, and a supply of Cake in the farm’s inventory box. A successful pairing produces a Large Dark Egg that hatches into Wispaw.

Palworld averages a breeding power value between both parents, so many different couples land on Wispaw. These pairs all work:

If you already own one Wispaw, pairing it with a second Wispaw always yields a Wispaw egg. That’s the cleanest way to farm for perfect passive skills without random results from other species mixing in.

Tip: You’ll know the pairing worked when the farm shows the “sparks are flying” message and an egg appears. Without Cake in the box, the progress bar still fills but no egg is ever laid.

Where to find Wispaw in the wild

Wispaw is strictly nocturnal. It will not spawn at any marked location during the day on Palpagos Islands, so you must search after nightfall. The World Tree is the exception, where it appears both day and night.

RegionLevel rangeTime
World Tree71–73Day and night
Grassland (Windswept Hills, Marsh Islands)11–12Night only

Lower-level players have another option. Wispaw shows up rarely as part of Pal Recruiter event spawns across the starting grasslands, forests, and volcanic biomes, with levels ranging roughly from 15 to 45 depending on the region. Defeating or catching a wild one drops Leather and Small Pal Souls, which are useful for upgrading your team at the Statue of Power.

How to beat and catch Wispaw

As a Dark-type, Wispaw takes double damage from Dragon attacks, so bring a strong Dragon Pal like Jormuntide, Orserk, or Jetragon for a clean type advantage. Avoid Normal-type Pals, which are weak against Dark enemies. Wispaw’s defense stat is low, so the fight is short once you’re outputting the right damage type.

Death-Cheating Feline partner skill

Wispaw’s signature skill, Death-Cheating Feline, boosts your capture rate whenever you land a back bonus while it’s in your active party. In practice, throwing a Pal Sphere or attacking from stealth gives a much larger capture multiplier. This makes Wispaw a strong companion for grabbing stubborn Alpha bosses and Legendary Pals without burning through expensive spheres.

The bonus scales as you level Wispaw at the Pal Condenser, climbing from Rank 1 (Small) up to Rank 5 (Extra Large). Note that the effect does not stack, so carrying more than one Wispaw gives no extra benefit.

Wispaw stats, work suitability, and combat kit

Wispaw is a small Humanoid Pal with balanced offense and a fragile defense. It cannot be ridden, so it serves purely as a combat and utility partner.

Because Wispaw is Nocturnal, it keeps working at your base through the night while other Pals sleep. Its work suitability covers Handiwork Lv. 2, Lumbering Lv. 1, Medicine Production Lv. 1, and Transporting Lv. 1, so it can craft, chop wood, and haul materials on the night shift.

Its Dark-type move set is where the damage lives. Wispaw learns high-power skills as it levels, mixing Dark attacks with a single Ice option.

Whether you want a stealth-capture partner, a night-shift crafter, or a Dark-type attacker with Apocalypse and Dark Laser, Wispaw covers all three roles once it’s in your Paldeck. Breeding a Wispaw-to-Wispaw pair is the smart way to lock in the passive skills that fit the job you have in mind.
