Riding a Pal is the quickest way to cross Palpagos, and each species moves at a fixed ride sprint speed set in the game files. The right mount saves stamina, skips terrain, and gets you to distant spawns faster than running. Below is the full speed order for ground, flying, and water mounts, along with the saddle tech level you need for each.
Quick answer: Jetragon is the fastest mount in Palworld 1.0 at a ride sprint speed of 3300, more than double any other flyer. Its saddle unlocks at tech level 79. For ground travel the fastest are Necromus and Hartalis (both 1900), and for water Neptilius leads at a 2000 swim dash speed.
Fastest mount by terrain
You do not need a single best mount for everything. Match the Pal to where you are going, since flying crosses mountains and oceans, ground mounts hold their stamina for long overland runs, and swimming mounts do not burn stamina in water at all.
| Terrain | Fastest Pal | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Flying | Jetragon | 3300 sprint |
| Ground | Necromus / Hartalis | 1900 sprint |
| Water | Neptilius | 2000 swim dash |
Note: Jetragon has the highest top speed but only 110 stamina, so it drains fast on long flights. Xenolord is slightly slower at 2700 sprint but carries 300 stamina, making it the smoother pick for long-distance travel.

Add to Google Preferences →Flying mounts ranked by sprint speed
Flying is the strongest travel option because it ignores terrain entirely. Speeds drop steeply below the top five, so upgrading your flyer as you level makes a real difference. Panthalus is unusual because it does not need a crafted saddle and never uses stamina.

| Pal | Sprint | Saddle Lv | Stamina |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jetragon | 3300 | 79 | 110 |
| Panthalus | 3000 | None | 100 |
| Shaolong | 2800 | 77 | 100 |

| Vanwyrm Cryst | 850 | 22 | 150 |
| Nitewing | 750 | 15 | 100 |
Nitewing at tech level 15 is the first flyer most players reach, and it carries you through the early game until Vanwyrm and Helzephyr open up. Faleris at 1400 sprint is the strongest progression flyer before you can catch a legendary or endgame Pal.
Ground mounts ranked by sprint speed
Ground mounts trade top speed for stamina, so they suit long overland travel and mounted combat where fliers would run dry. Several also dash or jump. Necromus and Paladius are the classic endgame kings, while the 1.0 legendary Hartalis matches the top speed with the highest stamina pool.

| Pal | Sprint | Saddle Lv | Stamina |
|---|---|---|---|
| Necromus | 1900 | 61 | 350 |
| Hartalis | 1900 | 70 | 400 |
| Paladius | 1800 | 61 | 400 |
| Ophydia | 1500 | 72 | 100 |

| Dazemu | 1200 | 28 | 100 |
| Blazehowl | 1200 | 33 | 150 |
| Rayhound | 1150 | 30 | 100 |
| Univolt | 1100 | 14 | 100 |
| Fenglope | 1050 | 26 | 140 |
| Direhowl | 1050 | 9 | 70 |
| Chillet | 1050 | 11 | 100 |
| Arsox | 1050 | 15 | 120 |
| Melpaca | 900 | 7 | 100 |
| Rushoar | 800 | 6 | 100 |
| Polapup | 375 | 26 | 120 |
For an early opener, Direhowl has the earliest saddle in the game at tech level 9 and still hits 1050 sprint, so it stays useful well past its unlock. At the very bottom, Polapup and Tetroise Primo are the slowest rideable land Pals and only serve niche roles.
Water mounts ranked by swim dash speed
Swimming mounts are ranked by their dashing speed in water, since they do not drain stamina while swimming and raw pace is all that matters for ocean crossings and offshore locations. Neptilius, added in 1.0, tops the category and leaps high out of the water.
| Pal | Swim dash | Saddle Lv | Stamina |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neptilius | 2000 | 64 | 410 |
| Chillet | 1890 | 11 | 100 |
| Jormuntide | 1800 | 40 | 150 |
| Surfent | 1440 | 16 | 100 |
| Elphidran Aqua | 1440 | 32 | 130 |
| Ghangler | 1350 | 31 | 320 |
| Ghangler Ignis | 1350 | 42 | 320 |
| Solmora | 1300 | 65 | 220 |
| Solmora Lux | 1300 | 66 | 220 |
| Azurobe | 1000 | 24 | 160 |
| Azurobe Cryst | 1000 | 27 | 160 |
| Whalaska | 950 | 42 | 200 |
| Whalaska Ignis | 950 | 71 | 200 |
Jormuntide is the long-standing fastest classic swimmer, and Azurobe is a strong early water pick that also adds Water damage to your attacks. Surfent unlocks at tech level 16 if you want a swimming mount from the start.
Speed passives that stack to +100%
A mount’s base sprint number is only the starting point. Movement passives stack additively across a Pal’s four passive slots, so a bred mount with the right skills far outruns a caught one of the same species. Two Swift plus two Runner adds roughly +100% effective speed.
| Passive | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Swift | +30% move speed | The best speed passive; run two |
| Runner | +20% move speed | Stacks additively with Swift |
| Nimble | +10% move speed | Filler for the last slot |
| Legend | +15% (innate) | Free on legendaries like Jetragon and Frostallion |
The Legend passive is built into legendary-rarity Pals and adds its 15% on top of the others, but it cannot be passed on through breeding. Swift, Runner, and Nimble can all be inherited, so breeding a perfect speed stack keeps even a mid-tier flyer competitive far longer than its base number suggests.
How to unlock and ride a mount
You know it worked when the mount prompt appears on the Pal and you can climb on. If it does not, the saddle is either not crafted, not equipped, or you have not reached the required tech level yet. Saddle materials can change between patches, so the in-game tooltip always shows the current cost for your build.
Chase raw speed only when you can afford the saddle and the catch, and remember that stamina, terrain, and speed passives often matter more than the top number. A well-bred Faleris or Frostallion will serve you until Jetragon and Xenolord remove every travel limit at once.
