Once your first talk with Robyn ends Feel The Heat, two tasks open at the same time in Horizon: Horizon’s Kitchen with the objective “Cook meat”, and New Connections with “Speak with the trader”. To close out Horizon’s Kitchen you need to turn one piece of raw Meat into a Dish at the kitchen campfire, then report back to Robyn. Finishing it starts the next main quest, Dog Days.
Quick answer: Load Wood into the FUEL slots of the floor Campfire in Horizon’s kitchen, press X to light it, drop raw Meat into the PRIMARY slot, press R to cook one Dish, then tell Robyn “Dinner is ready.”
What you need before cooking
- One piece of raw Meat (VALUE 5, HUNGER 30).
- At least one Wood for fuel.
- Access to the floor Campfire inside Horizon’s kitchen.
Where to get the Meat
During Survival, the General Trader sells Meat for 5 Bucks per piece and has seven available on your first visit. In Story, his initial stock has no Meat, so shoot a Red Deer just outside the gate instead. One Red Deer gave Meat 2.

Where to get the Wood
Wooden pallets sit by the kitchen steps. With a Stone Axe in hand, the prompt reads “Press LMB to break”. On Survival, breaking four stacks yielded 15 Wood, far more than one cook needs.

The finished Dish satisfies a lot more than the raw cut did, at VALUE 30 and HUNGER 90. The fire keeps burning afterwards, so you can slot in a second Meat and cook another Dish while the TURN OFF button is showing.

Report to Robyn
Find Robyn inside the log cabin bearing the green hand banner. Approach until the “Robyn, Press F Talk” prompt appears, then choose “Dinner is ready.” This completes Horizon’s Kitchen and starts the next main quest, Dog Days, with the objective “Enter Bone Cave”.

Robyn has more to offer after the hand-in. “Who is missing?” leads to a side quest about Liam, and “Anything else I can help with?” opens Return to Hunter’s Glade.
What’s in the reward box
Beside Robyn’s armchair sits the reward lockbox. It has no prompt before the quest is complete; afterward, it opens with a yellow-green glow. Its contents were the same on Survival and on Story.
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| 1 | |
| 30 | |
| 6 | |
| 2 | |
| 1 |
Opening the box also shows “RECIPE UNLOCKED: SURVIVOR’S GLOVES”. The two Bandages stop bleeding and restore HEALTH 90 each, which is worth keeping for Dog Days.

Right-click the Survivor’s Backpack (VALUE 25, CAPACITY 20) and choose EQUIP. The backpack grid grows from 15 to 20 slots, and your starting Casual Backpack drops back into the grid.
Mistakes that stop the cook
- R COOK remains greyed out if the fire is unlit or PRIMARY is empty. Light the fire and put Meat in PRIMARY first.
- Animal Fat cannot be cooked. Double-clicking it with the panel open returns “This kind of item isn’t consumable!” (seen on Story).
- Do not eat the Meat raw. On Survival, raw Meat inflicts PARASITES (Stamina Gain Rate -30%, cured with medication or alcohol). A cooked Dish does not.
- The reward box shows no prompt until the quest is finished, so there is nothing to open before you cook and report back.
With the quest reported and the box emptied, you are set for Bone Cave; the dog there needs a Bandage and raw Meat.
