Pokémon Pokopia’s Halloween event is live on Nintendo Switch 2. It runs from October 17 at 5:00AM to November 1 at 4:59AM local time. You disguise Ditto as furniture, scare your town’s residents into handing over Pumpkin Candy, and spend that candy on spooky decorations. Those decorations build two event habitats, one for Pumpkaboo and one for its evolution, Gourgeist. Both Pokémon stay in your town after the event ends.
Quick answer: Update to ver. 2.0.1, talk to Pumpkaboo outside the Pokémon Center, and scare Pokémon with Camouflage to collect 20 Pumpkin Candy. That covers every shop item, both habitats, and the Trick or Treat frame.

Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises requirements
The event won’t appear until your save meets every condition below. If you finish the story requirements on the final day, November 1, the event still triggers.
- Game version 2.0.1, which you can confirm from Options on the HOME Menu
- A town’s important request completed
- A rebuilt Pokémon Center
- The Camouflage move, learned from Zorua in Bleak Beach
- Your Switch 2 clock set to the real-world date and time
- An internet connection the first time you play the event
The event doesn’t run on Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin. If you meet the requirements while the event is already live, move to another town once or pick “Save & Quit” from the main menu before Pumpkaboo will show up.

How Pumpkin Candy scares work
Pumpkin Candy only comes from surprising other Pokémon. Use Camouflage to turn Ditto into an object, then get in front of a Pokémon. When it reacts with a speech bubble that names the object you’ve become, cancel the transformation. That startles it, and it drops between 1 and 3 Pumpkin Candy.
Scares follow a few fixed rules.
- The speech bubble has to mention your disguise, or turning back does nothing.
- You don’t need to hide. Transforming right in front of a Pokémon still works.
- A Pokémon that’s chatting with another Pokémon won’t notice you.
- Each Pokémon can be scared again after roughly 8 minutes.
- The item only needs to be something the Pokémon likes, not its single favorite.
Disguise choice matters. Furniture and toys like dolls, chairs, lamps, a Pikachu sofa, or a punching bag get far more reactions than trees, flowers, bushes, or building blocks. You can check what a Pokémon likes in its Pokédex entry before picking a disguise. Habitats with lots of Pokémon packed together are the fastest places to farm, since one disguise can catch several residents’ attention, though you still scare them one at a time.

Pumpkaboo’s shop: All nine event items and prices
At the Pokémon Center counter, give Pumpkin Candy to Pumpkaboo. Getting one of every item requires 20 Pumpkin Candy altogether.
| Item | Pumpkin Candy | Used in a habitat |
|---|---|---|
| Eerie Statue | 3 | No |
| Cofagrigus Locker | 3 | No |
| Ghost Smoke Projector | 3 | Pumpkaboo |
| Candy Bucket | 2 | Pumpkaboo |
| Trevenant Streetlight | 2 | Gourgeist |
| Pumpkin Lantern | 2 | Gourgeist |
| Pumpkin Lantern Tower | 2 | Gourgeist |
| Fun Balloons | 2 | No |
| Huge Table | 1 | Optional |
The Huge Table is optional because Pumpkaboo’s habitat accepts any table. The Cofagrigus Locker works as a real storage container, so you can open it and keep items inside. Two Trevenant Streetlights placed side by side form a branch arch.

Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist habitat recipes
Both habitats need just three items each. Gourgeist comes from its own habitat, not from evolving a Pumpkaboo.
| Habitat | Pokémon | Items | Candy cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Give me something good to eat (#008) | Pumpkaboo | Any table, Candy Bucket, Ghost Smoke Projector | 5 (6 with Huge Table) |
| Creepy pumpkins (#009) | Gourgeist | Trevenant Streetlight, Pumpkin Lantern, Pumpkin Lantern Tower | 6 |
For Creepy pumpkins, the Pumpkin Lantern Tower has to sit on top of the Pumpkin Lantern, or the habitat won’t register. For Give me something good to eat, set the Candy Bucket on the table and place the Ghost Smoke Projector alongside it. Building both costs 11 Pumpkin Candy plus a table you already own, or 12 if you buy the Huge Table.
If Gourgeist is your priority, buy the three Creepy pumpkins pieces first. That’s 6 candy, often just a few scares.

Trick or Treat frame and how to confirm everything worked
Buy all nine items, then talk to Pumpkaboo again. It hands over the event-exclusive Trick or Treat photo frame.
The game confirms each milestone with an on-screen message.
- Pumpkaboo habitat message: “You’ve restored a give me something good to eat habitat!”
- Gourgeist’s habitat: “You’ve restored a creepy pumpkins habitat!”
- Gourgeist arriving: “You became friends with Gourgeist!” after you talk to it at the habitat
- Frame reward: “You got the Trick or treat photo frame!”
Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist register in the Pokédex as entries #008 and #009, both Ghost and Grass types with the Hype specialty. Gourgeist also has Gather. Once you’ve befriended them, they’re yours for good. The November 1 deadline only closes off Pumpkin Candy and the shop, so finish your scares and purchases before 4:59AM local time that morning.
