High Jump is the mount upgrade that turns Paldea’s ledges from walls into shortcuts. Koraidon and Miraidon start the game without it, and no amount of exploring will hand it over — it is locked behind a single Path of Legends boss, and you have to beat that boss before the game gives you the sandwich that restores the ability.
Quick answer: Defeat Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan, in the quarry in East Province (Area Three) north of Levincia, then feed your mount the Salty Herba Mystica sandwich. Hold B to jump high.
What you need before fighting the Lurking Steel Titan
Orthworm is the third Titan in the Path of Legends line, and it sits at Level 28. Turning up underleveled is the main reason this fight drags, so bring a team that can actually trade hits with a bulky Steel-type.
- A party around Level 27, with your lead attacker closer to Level 29.
- At least one Fire-type or Fighting-type attacker — Arcanine and similar hard hitters clear it quickly.
- No reliance on Ground moves. Orthworm’s Earth Eater ability absorbs them and heals it instead, so Dig is wasted turns.
- The Path of Legends quest “The Search for the Lurking Steel Titan” active, so the Titan Badge (Steel) marker appears on your map.
Orthworm type matchups
Orthworm is a pure Steel-type, which means most of the coverage moves you have at this point in the game bounce right off it.
| Effectiveness | Types |
|---|---|
| Super effective | Fighting, Ground, Fire |
| Neutral | Ghost, Water, Electric, Dark |
| Resisted | Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Steel, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Fairy |
| No effect | Poison, plus all Ground moves (Earth Eater) |
Ground is listed as a weakness on paper, but Earth Eater overrides it in this fight. Treat Fire and Fighting as your only reliable super-effective options.

The Titan lives in a large excavation site carved into the desert canyons of East Province (Area Three), just north and slightly west of Levincia. Fast travel does most of the work here.

How to beat Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan
This Titan runs before it fights. You have to wear down its patience by chasing it, and there are two separate battle phases with a chase in between each one.

Feeding the Salty Herba Mystica sandwich to unlock High Jump
Beating the Titan does not grant the ability by itself. The actual unlock happens in the cave afterwards, when Arven makes sandwiches with the Salty Herba Mystica you just won.
Head into the cave with Arven, sit down, and hand your sandwich to Koraidon or Miraidon. Your mount eats it, regains the lost power, and the game immediately pops a tutorial card titled “How to Jump High”.
Confirming the unlock worked
- The “How to Jump High” tutorial appears and explains the new control.
- Your Rotom Phone rings — in Violet, Professor Turo calls to acknowledge that the mount’s power has come back.
- Press and hold B while riding and your mount launches into a noticeably higher jump.
- A quick tap of B still performs the old, smaller hop, so both jumps stay available.
Test it on the nearest cliff face right outside the cave. If you can hold B and clear a ledge that stopped you on the way in, the upgrade is live and permanent.
From there, the ledges and raised platforms scattered around Paldea that used to block you off become fair game, and you can go back to any earlier province and reach the spots that were sitting just out of reach.
