Mutations are the fastest way to raise your income in Pull a Lucky Fish. A mutated fish looks different, sells for more, and pays out a higher rate per second while it sits on your island, so filling your base with mutated catches is the core of any serious money farm.
Quick answer: There are six mutations. Gold, Diamond and Molten can appear naturally when you cast, every mutation can be applied by its matching weather event, and after four Rebirths the Mutation Machine lets you force a chosen mutation onto any fish in your inventory.
Every mutation and its multiplier
As of the Trading Update, six mutations exist. Each one raises both the sale value and the earning rate of the fish by the multiplier shown below, and the higher the multiplier, the rarer the mutation.
| Mutation | Multiplier | Best way to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 1.5x | Thunder and Rainbow weather events |
| Diamond | 2x | Rainbow weather event |
| Frozen | 2x | Frozen weather event |
| Cat | 2.5x | Cat and Premium Cat weather events |
| Bloody | 3x | Bloodmoon weather event or the Mutation Machine |
| Molten | 4x | Rainbow weather event or the Mutation Machine |
Molten is the strongest and hardest to land, both through natural rolls and through the Mutation Machine. If you are choosing which fish to keep, prioritize your highest-value catches for the biggest multipliers.

Three mutations can roll on their own the moment you cast the line. Gold, Diamond and Molten all have a chance to appear on a fresh catch without any weather event running. There is no setup for this beyond fishing normally, so the more you cast, the more chances you get at a naturally mutated fish.
Get mutations from weather events
Weather events are the main engine for mutations. These are time-limited events that each carry a status effect, and while one is active it can apply its matching mutation to fish you catch and to fish already placed in your base. That double coverage is what makes events so useful. You can upgrade catches you have already banked without recatching them.
Five weather events drive the mutation system, and each one lines up with a specific mutation.
| Weather event | Mutation it applies |
|---|---|
| Thunder | Gold |
| Rainbow | Gold, Diamond, Molten |
| Cat | Cat |
| Frozen | Frozen |
| Bloodmoon | Bloody |
The Rainbow event is the most valuable window because it can produce Gold, Diamond and the top-tier Molten mutation. When it rolls around, keep casting and keep your best fish placed so they can pick up the mutation too.
Force mutations with the Mutation Machine
The Mutation Machine removes the luck from the equation. Instead of waiting for the right weather, you feed it a fish and add the mutation you want. This is the reliable path to Bloody and Molten, the two mutations that are otherwise tied to specific events.
You know it worked when the fish shows its new look and the higher sale value and earning rate carry over once it is placed on your island.
Stacking more than one mutation
A single fish can hold more than one mutation. If you catch a mutated fish and leave it in your base, a later weather event can add a second mutation to it. You can also drop that same fish into the Mutation Machine to stack another mutation on top. Combining a naturally mutated catch with an event bonus and a machine roll is how you build the highest-earning fish in the game.
Focus your effort where it pays off. Keep your rarest and most valuable fish placed during weather events so they collect mutations for free, save the Mutation Machine for pushing those same fish toward Molten, and let ordinary catches sit while you wait for the next Rainbow to roll.
