The creature-collecting adventure shows off its throw-to-catch mechanics ahead of a Closed Beta Test across mobile, console, and PC.

Roco Kingdom is a creature-collecting adventure built around exploring an open fantasy world and catching the monsters that live in it. Its gameplay trailer centers on one core action, throwing a special sphere at a wild creature to capture it, and follows a young elf-eared trainer as he chases pets across meadows, rivers, snowy peaks, and a bustling seaside town.

Quick answer: The game runs a Closed Beta Test starting October 27, with pre-registration and wishlisting open now at rocokingdom.com.

How capture works in Roco Kingdom

Catching a creature means approaching it in the wild and throwing a capture sphere or bait item at it. The throw is not a guaranteed hit. In the opening scene, the trainer sneaks up on a purple dodo-like bird and tosses a ball, only for the bird to kick it straight back over his head. Timing and positioning clearly matter, and missed throws play out as slapstick rather than a simple menu prompt.

When a throw lands, it triggers a capture burst. One sequence by an autumn river shows the trainer sizing up an armored creature, throwing an orb, and setting off the catch effect. The same throwing action is used across every environment, whether the target is a jester-like pet in a forest, a plant creature among ruins, or a frost yeti on a snowy slope.

Creatures, biomes, and the worlds to explore

The creatures you collect are called Jinies, and more than 400 unique ones roam the world to meet, catch, and travel with. They appear in habitats that match their type, from swan-like creatures in lake waterfalls to musical bug creatures perched on rocks and a reptile hiding in the grass.

The trainer traverses a varied landscape, from broad green fields and cascades beneath forest canopies to fall-colored river edges, flower-covered hills with windmills, snowy mountain inclines, red-plant-covered uplands, and a richly detailed town of twisting lanes and market booths. Portals connect certain zones, and passing through one can send the trainer tumbling over rooftops.

Not every encounter goes smoothly. In a wheat field, the trainer reaches for a golden creature, trips over a red-capped monster, and drops straight into a cosmic portal.

The fall ends with him landing head-first in a glowing purple cauldron in front of a row of street vendors, stuck with the pot over his head.

Battles, co-op, and customization

Catching Jinies is just one part of the game’s interconnected systems. In turn-based arena matches, companion creatures take turns using elemental techniques: bolts of lightning, icy bursts, poisonous bubbles, and equipment-powered attacks. PvP is framed as a contest of outmaneuvering your opponent rather than depending on raw stats.

  • Co-op play lets friends gather in town squares, run countryside paths, and ride aquatic and winged Jinies together across oceans and skies.
  • A wardrobe system equips themed outfits, hairstyles, and wands so a trainer can match the look of their Jini.
  • Trainers and their companions perform choreographed dances on festival stages in town.
  • A flying galleon travels toward a towering red castle academy in the sky, part of the game’s magic-school setting.
