The rod leans entirely on high-multiplier mutations rather than raw speed. When you catch a Singularity or Umbra fish, its Final Fish Weight is multiplied by 1.286x, which directly increases the sell price of those catches. On top of that, it carries a 10% chance to duplicate any caught fish, with a further 25% chance to duplicate the copy again.
This rod’s mechanics create a clear compromise: while the fish is inside the bar, Forced Progress Speed rises by +1% each second and the control bar slows by 90%. Once the fish leaves the bar, the control bar speeds up by 50%, but Resilience falls sharply. It can land heavy, valuable fish, though the process is slow.

The Gifts from the Event Horizon upgrade is the most relevant one for money farming, since doubling the per-second forced progress helps offset the rod’s biggest weakness. Even so, it does not fully cancel out the negative base progress speed on its own.

A second test moved to the Obsidian Trench with a full stack of buffs aimed at the rod’s weak spot. That setup used Glowworm bait for its +50% progress speed and guaranteed Glowy mutation, plus Mariana’s Gauntlets, maxed charm buffs, Mutated Sharky, and an active Great Telescope alignment.
Under those conditions the rod pulled in Shatter-Tooth Sharks carrying Glowy and Singularity mutations. Individual high-tier catches reached notable values, including a Shiny Giant Umbra Shatter-Tooth Shark at 292,000 C$ and a Sparkling Big Singularity Shatter-Tooth Shark at 232,000 C$.
The full haul sold for 16,209,370 C$ across 128 fish. Adding a Gold Coin sell booster, which grants +25% sell rate for 30 seconds, pushed a later sale of 242 fish to 20,261,712 C$.

Why speed keeps it out of the top spot
The core issue is the -10% base progress speed. Even with the mastery upgrade to forced progress and a bait that adds +50% progress speed, each catch still resolves slowly compared with the fastest money rods. High per-fish value cannot fully make up for a low catch rate over an hour of farming.
For players who already own it and want the strongest mutation multipliers, the Rod of the Singularity remains a rewarding pick, especially in a high-value zone like the Obsidian Trench with mutation-boosting companions and progress-speed bait. As a pure money rod, though, its slow pace means it earns decent money without topping the fastest options in the current meta.
