After roughly a year and a half in Steam Early Access and more than a million copies sold, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is going 1.0. The full release is called Rage of Kuldra, and it brings the game’s first raid, a new top gear tier, a combat rework, and three console platforms all at once.

Quick answer: RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 launches on September 15, 2026 at 4PM UTC for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with full crossplay and day-one Game Pass.

If your client is already installed, the update should appear as a normal patch once the clock hits 4PM UTC. Console owners can preload through their respective store pages ahead of time.

Platforms, price, crossplay, and Game Pass

This is the first time a RuneScape game has gone to consoles, and it happens on day one. The 1.0 version runs on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with Steam Deck also covered on the portable side.

  • PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Jagex Launcher
  • PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2
  • Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming from day one
  • Full crossplay between PC and every supported console
  • Standard edition stays at $29.99 / £24.99 after launch

The Jagex Launcher version counts as its own separate PC release. Owning the game on Steam does not automatically unlock it there.

Controller play also gets attention at 1.0. Camera-relative aiming becomes the default setting, so attacks and spells travel toward where the camera is pointed rather than requiring a separate aiming input.

Scorned Wilderness: the first Dragonwilds raid

The headline addition is not another open region to settle in. The Scorned Wilderness is built around Dragonwilds’ first raid, a run of floating islands torn apart by wild Anima and Black Dragon power. You travel between them on your way to the final fight.

You can attempt it solo or with a group. Getting to the boss means clearing enemy waves, surviving timed pressure, and handling one-off combat encounters, and Queen Kuldra attacks you during the approach itself. Most of the raid’s specific mechanics are staying under wraps until launch day.

Queen Kuldra, the God-Eater

Kuldra is a five-headed Black Dragon and the threat the Early Access storyline has been building toward. Every Dragon Lord you have put down so far was a step closer to her. Each of her heads channels powers tied to Gielinor’s dragons, so longtime RuneScape players may spot familiar attacks, though the full fight has not been detailed.

Beating her closes out the main story that started when the game entered Early Access.

Kuldra’s confirmed rewards

The confirmed drop list includes the newest Dragon Shield, a cape tied to the kill whose name has not been revealed, and classic Dragon equipment. The Dragon Scimitar and Dragon Crossbow are both locked in. Everything else sits on Kuldra’s Rare Drop Table and is being kept secret until people can run the raid themselves.

Runite tier: new gear for all three combat styles

The Scorned Wilderness raises the ceiling on melee, ranged, and magic progression at the same time. New resources feed into three sets, each slotting in directly above the current best option.

New materials and Vestiges come with the tier, and every skill tree in the game is being filled out to level 99 at 1.0. There is also a new NPC, Commander Zilyana, plus additional quests and activities.

Combat rework: blocking, parries, and Visceral Attacks

The 1.0 combat pass is mostly about removing the small delays that made fights feel sluggish. The block animation is shorter and its active window starts earlier, and the interface now tells you how much damage a successful block absorbed.

A clean parry refunds 50% of your maximum Stamina and opens a window for one cinematic Visceral Attack, complete with a camera shift so the hit reads clearly. That combination lets you recover resources and immediately punish in a single beat.

Other movement and timing changes land alongside it:

  • You can attack while sprinting and start a combo without stopping first
  • Skill Spells and Magic Attacks can be cancelled by blocking or dodging
  • Bow and spell attacks get earlier exit points during long animations
  • Stamina costs are rebalanced across weapons and shields
  • Enchant Weapon and Spectral Arrows last longer; Tempest Shield and Snare have shorter cooldowns

Jagex is also cleaning up how hits are communicated between server and client, which should cut down on phantom damage from enemies you have already killed and keep on-screen numbers consistent with what is happening in the fight.

The Special Attack bar

Weapon Special Attacks move off Stamina and onto their own rechargeable bar that refills over time. Spend it on the next trash pack or bank it for something dangerous. Because the bar now controls how often specials fire, their Stamina costs drop and their damage goes up, with Titan’s Wrath and the Greatsword Special both getting stronger.

Wands

Wands are a new magic weapon type that trade raw damage for mobility. Staves remain the heavier ranged damage option; Wands suit a faster, more mobile style. They still feed the elemental systems, so Air, Fire, and Water magic continue building Knockdown, Burn, and Slow.

New enemy variants

Brynmoor, Ghornfell, Fellhollow, and Dowdun Reach all get new enemy variations that can apply Poison, Shock, and Wither Rot, which gives familiar areas more bite for returning players. Dire Wolf attacks have also been shortened so they stop chain-catching players who are already sprinting away.

What carries over from Early Access

Nothing is being cut. Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach, and the Umbral Sands expansion all remain in the game, and the core loop is unchanged: gather resources, build a base, level RuneScape skills through the activities that use them, and hunt dragons alone or in a group of up to four.

Magic still doubles as a toolset rather than just a weapon, so spells handle chopping, mining, and traversal as well as combat. If you stopped playing partway through Early Access, your existing knowledge of Ashenfall still applies.

Dragonwilds roadmap after 1.0

Version 1.0 is not the endpoint. Jagex has committed to at least one update per month through the rest of 2026, with a larger drop in December.

WindowUpdateMain additions
October 2026Minor updateQuests, quest tab improvements, more enemy variety, fixes
November 2026Minor updateQuests, activities, fixes
December 2026LuminancePrayer skill, new region, new material, Vestiges
2027Shadows of AshenfallExpansion plus a Hardcore world difficulty

Details on the 2027 plans are thin beyond the names, so treat Shadows of Ashenfall and Hardcore mode as directional rather than dated.

How to confirm 1.0 is live for you

The clearest signal is the Scorned Wilderness appearing as a reachable destination and the Special Attack bar showing up as its own resource in the combat HUD, separate from Stamina. On PC, your client should sit on a 1.0 build rather than a 0.x version after the patch downloads. Console and Game Pass players simply install the game normally once the store listing goes live at 4PM UTC.

For anyone jumping in fresh, the fastest route into the endgame content still runs through the Dragon Slayer quest in Bramblemead Village, then each Dragon Lord in turn, before the Scorned Wilderness and Kuldra close the story out.
