Casting Rockplosion on an ore node shatters it instantly into loose chunks, which is faster than swinging a Bronze Pickaxe. Large Iron Ore Nodes carry several sub-nodes, so a single blast can leave you overencumbered quickly. Equipping Leggings of Lightness adds carry weight so you can haul more iron per trip.
Grow flax and shear fleece for thread
Padded Cloth starts as two kinds of thread. Coarse Thread is spun from flax, and Wool Thread is spun from fleece taken off sheep and rams. Both go through the Spinning Wheel before they ever reach the loom.
