The stone ruin platform in Russet Highlands looks like a dead end. There is a console marked Field Notes, a flat slab of rock, and nothing that reacts to an attack. The platform is not a combat puzzle or an elemental one. It is a check: it only responds when you are twined with the right Aniimo, and that Aniimo is locked behind the Sword of Bravery on the nearby summit.

Quick answer: Pull the Sword of Bravery to unlock Pawney, twine with Pawney at the Field Notes console on the ruin platform, then select Return the treasure to raise the Stonebound Sword sanctum.

What the Field Notes console needs before it works

Four things have to be true before the mechanism will accept an interaction. Miss any one of them and the console simply sits there.

  • The Warrior quest line is tracked from your Log, starting with The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons.
  • You have spoken to Sorora, the painter at the easel, to open Mystery of the Damaged Painting.
  • You can twine with a Helmut, which is what shatters the Dragonclaw Stone on the summit.
  • You have Pawney, the reward for pulling the Sword of Bravery, in your party.

Russet Highlands is a level 45–50 area, so the wildlife around the ruin is not incidental. Helmut spawns heavily here in its basic, Mountain Woods, and Snowfield forms, which makes finding one to twine with the easiest part of the whole sequence.

Activate the region’s Bloom and the closest Transporter before you start. The sword summit and the ruin platform are separate map markers, and you will be moving between them.

Unlock Pawney at the Sword of Bravery

Open the Log, choose The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons, then track the Warrior quest. Its first marker will appear on the Russet Highlands map, saving you from scanning the snowfield manually.

Travel across the highlands to Sorora, who stands at an easel. Talking to her starts Mystery of the Damaged Painting and drops a fresh objective marker on your map.

Follow the marker up to the summit platform and twine with a Helmut before you get there. Attack the Dragonclaw Stone until it shatters, which exposes the Sword of Bravery underneath.
Walk up to the sword and interact. You will get the Courage Born of Fear lore prompt, then a short exchange with Will of ???. Clear the dialogue options and the sword comes out of the stone.

Sit through the cinematic. Helmut transforms and Pawney is added to your roster. That is the whole point of the summit detour, and the Field Notes console will not respond until this scene has played.

Pawney (Prismana): element, role and stats

Pawney arrives as a stage 3 Prismana form, so it is not something you catch in the field alongside the local Jawling and Helmut lines. It is a Dark element DPS with a lopsided stat spread, hitting equally hard with physical and magic attack while its BP attack lags well behind.

Solve the Field Notes puzzle at the ruin platform

Check the map again. The quest marker moves to a stone ruin platform elsewhere in Russet Highlands, a flat construction set into the snow with the Field Notes console on it.

Twine with Pawney while you are standing on the platform. This is the step people skip. Interacting as your Pathfinder, or as any other Aniimo, does not open the option you need.
Interact with the Field Notes console and choose Return the treasure from the prompt. That is the entire solution. There is nothing to align, charge, or push into a socket here.

The Sword of Bravery is the treasure the console is asking about. Selecting the option is what hands it back, which is why the puzzle cannot be completed before the summit sequence.

How to confirm the Stonebound Sword sanctum opened

Success is unmistakable. A cutscene takes over and a large glowing purple cube pushes up out of the snow-covered ground beside the platform. When control returns, a flight of stairs leads to the cube’s entrance, labelled Stonebound Sword.

Run up the stairs and interact with the entrance. That first interaction activates the sanctum entrance and unlocks it as a Transport destination, so you can leave and come back without redoing the approach. You do not need to clear the sanctum for that to stick.

If the cube has appeared and your Log has ticked over, the puzzle is done and the Warrior quest line continues inside the sanctum. Everything after this point is a standard trial run, so bring a team scaled to the region’s level 45–50 spawns and take the Transporter shortcut on your next visit.
