Scream And Run: How to Escape With All 5 Keys (Full Walkthrough)

Escape is the mode that ends with a door and a badge. You spawn in a school after dark, the Cat in the Hat is already patrolling, and the only way out is a heavy exit door wearing five colored padlocks. No timer opens it. Keys open it, and those keys are stuffed inside black backpacks scattered across classrooms, hallways, and the library.

Quick answer: Search black backpacks with E until you have the green, red, yellow, pink, and white keys, carrying each one back to its matching padlock on the exit door. The run is complete when the final lock triggers the text “The last lock gives. The door is open.” followed by “You got out.”

The five locks on the Scream And Run exit door

The exit door is the fixed point of the whole run. Everything else moves. Each padlock takes one specific key, and each key produces its own confirmation line the moment you pull it out of a backpack.

KeyTypical hiding placeText when the lock opens
PinkBackpack on an office or hallway deskThe Pink Lock opens
GreenClassroom backpackThe Green Lock opens
YellowBackpack resting on a classroom deskThe Yellow lock opens
RedBackpack on a classroom chairThe Red lock opens
WhiteBackpack on a desk in a classroom cornerThe last lock gives. The door is open.

Placement is not fixed between rounds. The color that shows up in the first backpack you crack in one match can be the last one you find in the next. Most backpacks return “You Found Nothing,” which is normal and not a bug.

Controls to confirm before you leave spawn

Four binds carry the entire run. Mobile players should locate the crouch and flashlight buttons on the HUD before the first hallway, because hunting for them mid-chase is how runs end early.

Free Roam exists if you want to memorize the floor plan without a hunter breathing down your neck. It drops you into the same school, the same classrooms, the same locker-lined corridors and the outdoor playground, minus the pressure. Hide And Seek is the social playlist and does not push you toward the escape badge.

Full Escape walkthrough, spawn to open door

Queue Escape from the mode select on the official Roblox experience page. Servers hold up to 50 players, so expect company in the halls, and expect most of that company to be clustered around the same three doorways.
Read the objective prompt when the match starts. The game tells you outright that keys are hidden in backpacks, and that instruction is the entire win condition. Tap F once to confirm the flashlight works, then switch it off near windowed halls.

Sweep the room you spawned in first. The starting office has a black backpack sitting on a desk, and clearing it costs you a couple of seconds before anyone else is even moving.
Move into the locker-lined corridors and search every backpack you pass. Walk up until the Search prompt appears, then press E. Do not sprint the full length of a straight hall to reach one; the Cat in the Hat wins open geometry every time.

Keep pressing E on hallway bags until a key line appears instead of “You Found Nothing.” A hallway backpack is a common source for the pink key, and the pickup text names the color immediately so there is no guesswork about which padlock it fits.

Carry the key straight back to the exit door and interact with the matching padlock. The lock confirmation prints on screen, and that padlock stays open for the rest of the round. Banking each key as you get it beats hoarding several and dying with all of them.
Rotate to a fresh classroom cluster instead of re-checking a room you already emptied. Sweep desks, chairs, corners, and the teacher’s area. Classroom bags are where the green, yellow, and red keys most often turn up.

Extend the search past the obvious rooms once the easy classrooms are dry. The library behind the crawlspace, the dark basement corridors, and corner desks in rarely visited classrooms all hold backpacks, and the white key frequently sits in one of those far rooms.
Bring the final key back with a teammate rather than a crowd. Have one player crouch and watch the last corridor while another interacts with the padlock. When the last lock gives, walk into the light and the round is over.

Surviving the Cat in the Hat mid-run

The hunter cannot be killed by a standard survivor. Contact costs you a life, and the counter updates on screen, dropping to “2 Lives Left” and downward from there. Run out and you get a death screen offering Return to Lobby or Respawn, with a respawn dropping you back in the starting office room.

Respawning does not undo your progress on the door. Padlocks you already opened stay open, so a death mid-run means a walk back through the library and hallways, not a restart. That makes banking keys early even more valuable.

Crouch is the tool that ends chases. Duck into a classroom, drop to C, and let the hunter overshoot. Rooms with two doors are worth more than rooms with loot, because a single-door classroom becomes a dead end the moment the Cat in the Hat steps inside. Slide is for crossing a threshold or leaving a stair landing, not for covering a corridor.

Tip: leave the flashlight off during a chase. The beam helps you read a dark pile of backpacks, but it also draws a line straight to your position.

The ending: How to confirm your escape counted

There is no ambiguity about the finish. The fifth padlock produces “The last lock gives. The door is open.” and stepping through the bright doorway prints “You got out.” Nothing else in the school produces that sequence.

The clear awards the Escape The Cat In The Hat badge on your Roblox profile, which sits at roughly 9.5 percent rarity. A separate, far harder badge covers escaping with the power off, and that variant is earned by well under one percent of players. Both are tracked independently, so a normal clear does not progress the lights-off version.

Why Escape runs fail before the last lock

  • Waiting on a timer. The exit never opens on its own. If nobody is searching backpacks, nobody leaves.
  • Re-clearing the same rooms. An emptied backpack stays empty. Looping a familiar hallway burns lives for nothing.
  • Sprinting lit corridors. Shift plus an active flashlight in a long hall is the most common death in the game.
  • Stacking at the door. A crowd on the exit threshold gives the hunter a free multi-kill. Stay off it until the padlock is actually being used.
  • Teammates with shove abilities. Push Pass and Grab And Throw move players, not the hunter, and someone will use them as a joke at the worst moment.

The run rewards patience more than speed. Clear one room properly, bank the key you find, and keep your silhouette below the window line while you walk to the next cluster. Do that five times and the door opens.
