Where to find Drygulch Ravine, which harpies to kill, and which reward to claim from Rezlak.

Where to find Drygulch Ravine, which harpies to kill, and which reward to claim from Rezlak.

Securing the Lines is a Durotar kill quest that sends you into the harpy-filled canyons east of the road to clear out the raiders threatening the local supply caravans. It is a short trip once you know where the entrance is, and it pairs neatly with the quest you pick up from the same character.

Quick answer: Take Securing the Lines from Rezlak near Drygulch Ravine, kill 12 Dustwind Savages and 8 Dustwind Storm Witches inside the ravine, then return to Rezlak to turn it in and pick one reward.

Securing the Lines quest details

Rezlak stands near Drygulch Ravine at roughly coordinates 46, 23 in Durotar. He offers this quest alongside Winds in the Desert, and both can be finished in the same area during the same run.

Some versions of the quest simply ask you to kill 12 Durotar harpies of any type, which includes Dustwind Harpies, Dustwind Pillagers, Dustwind Savages, and Dustwind Storm Witches. Either way, the same ravine gives you every target you need.

Accept the quest and reach Drygulch Ravine

Speak with Rezlak in northern Durotar and accept Securing the Lines. Grab Winds in the Desert from him at the same time so you can collect supplies while you fight.

Open your map to line up the route. Head east from the road and look for the canyon that leads toward Razorwind Canyon and the cave opening into Drygulch Ravine. Finding the entrance path is the trickiest part of the whole quest.

Follow the canyon in. You can turn either right or left partway through and still reach the harpy areas. When you cross into the ravine you will see the “Discovered Drygulch Ravine” notice and gain a small chunk of experience.

Kill the Dustwind harpies

Two enemy types matter here. Dustwind Savages patrol the ravine floor, while Dustwind Storm Witches tend to sit on higher ledges and cast Lightning Bolt. You need 12 Dustwind Savages and 8 Dustwind Storm Witches total.

Clear the Dustwind Savages first as you move through the ravine floor. Pull them one or two at a time to keep the fights manageable.

Pull the Dustwind Storm Witches down from the cliffs and rock ledges. A ranged weapon or spell makes this far easier, since reaching them in melee means climbing to their perch. Interrupt their casts when you can.

Keep fighting through the ravine until both trackers read 12/12 Dustwind Savages and 8/8 Dustwind Storm Witches. Harpies drop useful bits like Linen Cloth, Ruffled Feather, and the occasional Copper along the way.

While you are here, you can pick up the nearby quest A Shimmering Storm inside the ravine and complete it during the same clear.

Turn in Securing the Lines and choose a reward

Once both counters are full, the quest reads Complete. Retrace your steps west out of the ravine and back to Rezlak’s camp on the road to hand it in.

Turning in the quest awards experience and reputation with Orgrimmar, Darkspear Trolls, and Ratchet, plus your pick of one weapon. Choose the reward that fits your class.

You know the quest is done when Rezlak’s completion dialogue plays and the reward selection window opens. Pick your item, click Complete Quest, and the objective drops out of your log. From there, Rezlak points you toward more work with his boss in Ratchet, so it is worth checking your log for the follow-up steps before you leave.
