Should You Pull Aventurine Waveflair in Honkai: Star Rail 4.5?

A breakdown of what the Quantum Elation DPS does and which accounts get the most out of him.

A breakdown of what the Quantum Elation DPS does and which accounts get the most out of him.

Aventurine • Waveflair is the second-phase 5-star of Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.5, and he trades his old shield-and-sustain identity for a Quantum damage dealer on the Path of Elation. His whole game plan turns frequent ally attacks into stacks of Fervor and Punchline, which fuel repeated Elation Skills that make up most of his damage. Whether he is worth pulling comes down to one thing: what your account already looks like.

Quick answer: Pull him at E0 if you already run Elation, follow-up, or high-frequency attack teams. If you have none of those pieces and still lack a main DPS or a reliable support core, his value drops sharply, and you are better off skipping.

What Aventurine Waveflair does in combat

Waveflair is an Elation DPS whose Skill and Ultimate hit every enemy, while his Elation Skill fires a burst of bouncing hits that concentrate on fewer targets as they die. That makes him flexible across single-target and multi-target fights, even if he is not a dedicated Pure Fiction sweeper.

Two resources drive him. Every time a teammate attacks, he gains one point of Fervor and one Punchline. When Fervor reaches 10, he automatically launches the Elation Skill “Cheers! To the Blazing Summer,” then upgrades his next Elation Skill during an Aha Instant into “All In! To the Blazing Summer,” which consumes all Fervor and adds an extra hit for every point spent. Punchline is shared by the team and raises the value of each Elation hit. The takeaway is simple: the more your team attacks, the harder he hits.

He also has two operating modes. As the only Elation character on the team, his Elation Skill counts as a Follow-Up ATK, and each ally attack feeds him extra Certified Banger, a Punchline, and a 25 SPD boost for Aha. Add a second Elation character and he switches to a support-leaning mode that grants all allies 20% Elation and gives himself an extra 80%, but he loses the solo conversion and Aha acceleration.

Who should pull him

His priority sits in the mid-to-high tier for Version 4.5, and it moves depending on your roster. The single question that decides it: do you already own teammates that activate his mechanics? If yes, he is one of the strongest personal upgrades in the patch. If no, his output falls off hard.

Account typeRecommendation
Owns Elation pieces (Yao Guang, Silver Wolf Lv.999) or follow-up attackersStrong pull; biggest personal upgrade in 4.5
Runs high-frequency attack coresWorth pulling; his engine stays fed
New player still building a first complete teamLower priority; he can serve as a starter DPS but a support like Robin • Summeretto or a sustain often helps more first
No Elation or follow-up support at allSkip or delay; his value drops significantly

Even without premium Elation units, he stays functional. A team of Waveflair, the Elation Trailblazer, Gallagher, and Robin • Summeretto clears most content, including some endgame modes. So the floor is fine; the ceiling is what depends on your existing characters.

Best teams for Aventurine Waveflair

His strongest and most consistent setup in the current 4.5 environment is the solo-Elation follow-up core. Ashveil and Mortenax Blade attack often, and Ashveil’s Follow-Up buff even applies to Waveflair’s Elation Skill, so their actions keep pushing his Fervor and Punchline forward. Huohuo rounds it out as a stable healer who provides Energy and cleanses debuffs.

TeamMembers
Solo Elation / follow-upWaveflair, Ashveil, Mortenax Blade, Huohuo
All-Elation coreWaveflair, Yao Guang, Elation Trailblazer, Huohuo
F2P clearWaveflair, Elation Trailblazer, Gallagher, Robin • Summeretto
BeginnerWaveflair, Remembrance Trailblazer, Asta, Natasha

Robin • Summeretto is a good flex option in either build since she advances Waveflair forward, refills his Energy, and adds bird attacks that stack his resources. Permansor Terrae or Hyacine can swap into the sustain slot, and Moze substitutes for Ashveil if you don’t have him.

How much to invest: Eidolons and Light Cone

For most players, E0 is the safe stopping point, and E1S1 is the ideal target if you want to push further. The general rule holds here: get the character, build the team, then consider the Light Cone, and only after that look at Eidolons. When jade is tight, E1 is often a better buy than the signature cone.

UpgradeWhat it does
Summer Rides the Surf (signature)Adds CRIT Rate, SPD, Elation%, and Skill Point recovery; his best overall cone
E1 – Vacation At Stake+24% All-Type RES PEN and lets his Talent fire an Elation Skill every 10 Fervor, sharply raising attack frequency
E2 – Tidal Fluctuations of LeisureRaises the Fervor cap to 50 and grants more Fervor from Skill, Ultimate, and Elation Skill
E6 – Cashing the Past for a Wild RideHis strongest Eidolon; permanent enhanced Elation Skill after two Ultimates plus a 25% Elation DMG boost

Note: Quantum DMG Boost from a Planar Sphere only helps his ATK-scaling Skill and Ultimate hits, not the Elation bounces that carry most of his damage. A sphere with better CRIT and SPD substats can beat one with the ideal main stat.

The best pull is rarely the strongest name on paper, but the one that fixes your account’s biggest gap. If you already own Elation or follow-up attackers, Aventurine • Waveflair is an easy addition that turns those existing characters into a much stronger whole. If you don’t, the smarter move is to build a functional core first and revisit him on a future rerun.
