The flare stack at CEG HQ is a vertical pipe tower split into four sections, each of which has drifted out of line. A lift runs up and down the structure, stopping at a numbered station beside every misaligned segment. Until all four segments lock together and the command console reads green, the stack cannot be ignited and the sequence will not advance.

Quick answer: Silence the alarm with A5D7, release the rotation clamps with E3E8, then turn the red valve wheel at stations 1 through 4, riding the lift up one level between each.

Codes and key items for the flare stack puzzle

Two codes and one key item gate the entire sequence. Neither keypad accepts input until the Controller Key is in hand, so grab it before touching the lower control room panels.

The Controller Key sits on a desk in the small control room next to the lift, and it doubles as the Room 204 Key. Pick it up before you drop the platform to the lower level, or you will be riding the lift twice for nothing.

Prepare the stack: Alarm, clamps, and the lower control room

Follow the dark industrial corridor until you reach the control console that looks out over the flare stack mechanism. This is the lift panel you will return to between every single alignment.
Use the lift control panel and press the red button beneath the down arrow to send the platform down. The panel only offers directional controls plus a Ground option, so there is nothing else to configure here.

Step into the adjoining control room and take the Controller Key from the desk. It is labelled as the Room 204 Key in your inventory.
Go back to the lift console and select the down arrow to travel to the lower control room level, where the alarm panel and the Command Console are located.

With the Controller Key inserted in the Alarm Status panel, enter A5D7; accepting the code shuts off the alarm.

Move to the Command Console keypad, type E3E8 and confirm. The display should read Rotation Clamps Released.

The valve wheels will not turn the pipe sections while the clamps are still engaged, so confirm that clamp message before you start climbing.

Align all four pipe sections from station 1 to station 4

Each station has one red valve wheel, and each wheel rotates the pipe segment directly beside it. The loop is identical at every level. Turn the wheel until the segment visibly meets the flare column, then ride the lift up one stop and repeat.

At station 1, turn the red valve wheel until the first pipe section rotates into alignment with the column above it.
To reach the second station, go back to the lift console and use the up control to raise the platform.

At station 2, rotate the red wheel until that segment connects cleanly with the flare column.
Press up on the lift panel to go to level 3, then turn the red wheel at station 3 so the third section of the vertical gas pipeline lines up.
Ride the lift upward again to station 4’s top platform, then turn that valve wheel until the last pipe section locks into place.
Open the lift panel and select the Ground button to drop the platform back to the ground control floor.

Confirm the alignment and ignite the flare stack

Back at the Command Console, check the status indicators before doing anything else. Every flare stack section must show a green light. A section that is still amber or unlit means that station’s wheel was not turned far enough, and the fix is simply to ride the lift back to that level and keep turning.

With all four lights green, run the Flow Test from the console, then press IGNITE. A cinematic takes over as the stack catches with red flames and radio chatter breaks across the monitor, which is your confirmation the puzzle is finished and the scene moves on.

The whole sequence is short once the two codes are in, and the only real trap is forgetting the Controller Key on that first trip down. Grab it early, release the clamps, and the climb is just four wheels and four lift rides.
