Skinwalker’s Hunting Quests in Permafrost: Deer, Wolf and Moose Rewards

Skinwalker runs a set of hunting side quests in Permafrost from the top of the lookout tower at Hunter’s Glade. When a hunt is done you report back to him and collect its reward from a box on the platform. Five of these hunts are confirmed, and three of them — the deer, wolf and moose hunts — have known rewards.

Quick answer: Take Skinwalker’s deer (5), wolf (7) and moose (1) hunts from the Hunter’s Glade tower, then open the “Quest reward” box on the platform after each turn-in to claim the recipes and items.

Where to find Skinwalker

At Hunter’s Glade, Skinwalker is stationed on the elevated platform of the metal lookout tower. Take the exterior stairs upward; an “ENTERING No Build Zone” banner appears during the climb. On the platform, he stands beside the burning fire basket, against the red cabin’s wall. When a reward awaits you, a gift icon appears by his name.

How to take a hunt

Talk to Skinwalker and pick “I’m up for another challenge!” from his menu. The other options are trading and claiming a reward.

Choose “Let’s hunt!”. He then asks which kind of animal you want: “Critters and herbivores.” or “Dangerous.”

The “Critters and herbivores.” menu contains Deer, Moose and Fox, while Wolf is under “Dangerous.” Selecting an animal launches its quest, displays a banner naming it, and ends the conversation. Speak with him again to choose the next hunt.

All of these quests can remain active at the same time. Taking an animal hunt removes it from its menu: after starting the deer quest, only Moose and Fox remain; after the moose quest, Fox is left. UnBear-able, the bear hunt, is already in your quest tracker, so by then the “Dangerous.” menu contains only Wolf.

With the fox and bear hunts both unfinished, neither category offers anything beyond “[Back]”; no additional hunts appear.

The five confirmed hunts and their targets

Five hunts are confirmed here, three of them with confirmed rewards. The deer, wolf and fox hunts use a counter in the journal rather than a single kill.

Quest-animal deaths produce no on-screen feedback: there is neither a banner nor a counter. To check progress, open Journal, select Quests, then Side Quests; the accumulated count appears in entries such as “Hunt deer 2/5” or “Hunt wolves 2/7”. Skin every kill, since pelts and Animal Fat are materials for the Tanning Rack. Once you reach a hunt’s required kill count, its objective switches to “Report back to Skinwalker”.

How to claim your reward

Once the objective says “Report back to Skinwalker”, head up the tower and speak with him. Select “Ready to claim my reward.” He displays the completed hunts as a menu, with a separate entry for each animal.

Select one completed hunt; he responds with praise, then ends the conversation. Speak with him again and repeat for every other completed hunt awaiting collection.

Open the platform box marked “Quest reward”. While it stays open, each RECIPE UNLOCKED banner appears in sequence, and the rewards are stored inside. Choose “Take all” to clear the box; a QUEST SUCCEEDED banner then signals the hunt’s completion.

Collect rewards for two hunts without opening the box between them, and their loot is combined in that same container.

Moose hunt reward (Nothing Left to Moose)

Turning in the moose hunt unlocks three decoration recipes at once: Moose Hide Rug, Moose Head Trophy Female and Moose Head Trophy Male. The reward box then holds 4 Makeshift Heater and 10 Bucks.

Deer and wolf hunt rewards (Oh, Deer and Hour of the Wolf)

Claiming the deer and wolf hunts together unlocks the Deer Hide Rug and Wolf Hide Rug recipes. The shared box then holds 1 Wolf Head Hat, 3 Ultra Dish (H/W/E) and 3 Makeshift Heater.

The rug and trophy recipes are base decorations you build later. The rewards for What Does The Fox Say and UnBear-able are not yet confirmed.
