Slayers 2 no longer tracks cooldowns skill by skill. With the v0.140 patch notes, skill cooldowns became global, and every counter in the game was folded into one shared timer. That single line rewrites how combos are sequenced, because spending a skill now costs you access to the rest of your kit rather than just that one button.

Quick answer: Using any skill puts your other skills on cooldown too, and all counters draw from one shared cooldown instead of individual ones. Plan each cast as a commitment, not a filler.

What a global cooldown means in practice

Under the old system, each ability ran its own timer. You could fire a gap closer, follow with an extender, drop a finisher, and rotate back to whichever button came off cooldown first. The timers ran in parallel, so a full kit gave you a near-constant stream of options.

A global cooldown collapses those parallel timers into one. Pressing a skill starts a window during which your other skills are unavailable as well. The practical effect is that your damage per fight is now limited by how well you choose each individual cast, not by how many buttons you can cycle through.

Counters now share a single timer

The counter change is the harsher half of the update. Previously, holding multiple counters meant holding multiple defensive outs — burn one, and another was still available a moment later. That stacking no longer exists. All counters draw from the same pool, so a single mistimed counter leaves you with nothing until the timer clears.

Do not open a fight by throwing out a counter to test your opponent. That read now costs you every counter you own, not just one.

How to rebuild your rotation

Take your current combo route into a training dummy and run it exactly as you did before the update. You will see where it drops, because the follow-up skill that used to be ready will now be locked behind the shared timer.
Pick one opener and stick with it. With only one skill available per window, the ability with the fastest startup and the most reliable hit confirm earns that slot, not the one with the biggest number attached.
Move your heavy finisher to a confirmed opening only. Missing a long-recovery skill now leaves the entire kit dark, which is a much larger punish window than the old system allowed.
Fill the gaps with basic attacks and movement. The space between casts is no longer filled by a second skill, so spacing and normal attack strings carry more of your pressure than they used to.
Treat your counter as a single, held resource. Save it for a read you are confident in rather than as a reflex, since there is no backup counter waiting behind it.

What this changes for builds

Builds that leaned on chaining many abilities in quick succession lose the most here. Kits built around rapid multi-hit pressure, where the value came from looping short individual cooldowns, are now gated by the shared timer regardless of how short those old timers were.

  • Stamina is a smaller bottleneck than before, since you cannot fire enough skills to drain it as fast.
  • Per-cast damage matters more than rotation length, so damage stats keep their value.
  • Skills with invincibility frames or armor on startup gain value as your single available option.
  • Defensive stats are worth more, because a whiff now leaves you exposed for longer.

Before spending anything on a respec, test the new cooldown rhythm against a training dummy first. Your stat spread may still be fine even if your combo route is not.

How to confirm the change is live

Load into a server and use any skill, then immediately try a different one. If the second skill is unavailable, the global cooldown is active on your server. Repeat the test with two different counters — if the second one does not fire, the shared counter cooldown is applied as well.

The same update carried a handful of unrelated fixes, including a water whirlpool nerf and mobile tool use moving from a double tap to a dedicated button, but the cooldown rework is the change that touches every build in the game. If your combos feel broken rather than slower, that is the expected result — the kit did not shrink, the pacing did.
