The most-reported source of confusion in Splatoon Raiders came down to a single button. To lift your tank’s limiter and raise its level cap, you used to hold the A button, while nearly every other menu action in the game only needed a quick tap. Version 1.1.1 fixes that mismatch, along with a run of gameplay and crash bugs.
Quick answer: After installing Version 1.1.1, release a tank’s limiter with a single press of the A button. You no longer hold it down.
What changed with the tank limiter
As you level up and collect skill books, you spend points across four tank stats: weapon damage, gadget damage, extra part slots, and a longer health bar. Once you have poured enough points into upgrades, the limiter release valve fills up. Releasing it lifts the level cap so you can keep spending points.
The problem was the input. Releasing the valve required a hold on the A button, which broke from the game’s usual tap-to-confirm pattern. Enough players got stuck on it that Nintendo’s Japanese support page added a note spelling out the mechanic. Version 1.1.1 removes the hold entirely, so a normal press now triggers the release.

Version 1.1.1 went live on August 6, 2026. Beyond the limiter change, it targets several specific bugs across the Hideout Ship, dungeons, and the Arcade Cabinet.
| Area | Fix |
|---|---|
| Tank limiter | You can release a tank’s limiter without holding down the A button. |
| Hideout Ship / dungeons | The feature that hides elements like the Showstopper Gauge after a period of no input now works as intended. |
| Splatchet (Explosive Steps) | The Emergency Damage Up effect now applies to explosion damage from Explosive Steps. |
| Movement bug | Fixed occasional cases where you could not move after using a Splatchet right after a Squid Roll off a wall. |
| Soyu Cliffs | A Fish Stick that could move into terrain and become impossible to defeat is fixed. |
| HOPPING (Arcade Cabinet) | The Exploration Bot no longer occasionally stops hitting Salmonids. |
| Startup crash | Tapping the Switch 2 touchscreen on the swirling fog screen after launch no longer crashes the game. |
| General | Several other adjustments to improve the gameplay experience. |
How to install the update and confirm it worked
If your console does not pull the file automatically, Nintendo’s official update instructions for Splatoon Raiders walk through the manual steps. Note that the latest update data is required for online play, and mixing versions will disable local communication and LAN play, so make sure everyone in your session is on the same version.
This follows the game’s launch-day Version 1.1.0 patch, which mostly adjusted the music in certain scenes. Version 1.1.1 is the first update to take direct aim at player feedback, and the limiter change removes the single mechanic that tripped up the most people after release.
