Ahead of the launch, the full Dark Seeker saga is coming to Switch 2 in native form. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind are bundled as the Kingdom Hearts Collection, releasing October 8, 2026. Those titles previously ran on the original Switch only through cloud versions.
Coco is the first confirmed Disney world
Pixar’s 2017 film Coco is the first Disney and Pixar property confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 4, letting players explore its Land of the Dead. It’s a striking tonal shift away from Quadratum, the hyper-realistic modern city where Sora’s story now unfolds.
The trailer opens with Papa Hector explaining The Final Death to Miguel, the fate that awaits those forgotten by the living. Miguel is then shown performing for a crowd as Heartless appear, and Sora, dressed in the same style as the boy, steps in to fight them. The group heads to the Casa de la Cruz, where Sora receives a new Keyblade themed to the world and modeled on Miguel’s guitar, then battles alongside Papa Hector.

Returning characters and where the story picks up
The trailer checks in on Sora’s allies. King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are searching for a way to find and save him, going as far as asking Hades, who confirms Sora isn’t in his realm. Even with that separation, there’s still a thread connecting them, and Sora is shown glimpsing outlines of Donald and Goofy while inside Quadratum.
Strelitzia and Sigurd, both introduced in Kingdom Hearts Union χ, are confirmed to appear. Organization XIII’s presence looms as well, with a robed figure questioning the nature of light and darkness. Kingdom Hearts 4 begins the franchise’s Lost Master Arc, continuing Sora’s story after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3 and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.
A Kingdom Hearts anime is coming to Disney+
Alongside the game news, Square Enix and Disney announced Kingdom Hearts: The Series, an original anime inspired by the games that will stream on Disney+. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura is confirmed to be involved, with the project described as expanding the Kingdom Hearts universe while celebrating its established characters.
