Anakin Skywalker was the surprise face at the end of the Star Wars Zero Company gameplay trailer, and Bit Reactor’s turn-based tactics game does not hold him back for long. He turns up early in the campaign as a Jedi General of the Grand Army of the Republic, in the middle of a prisoner swap that falls apart in about the way you would expect.
Quick answer: Anakin first appears in a story cinematic covering a prisoner exchange with Umbaran forces, escorting the prisoner Dozen; a Separatist gunship attack ends the meeting, and he becomes a playable unit for a couple of fights immediately after.
How the prisoner exchange with Anakin plays out
The sequence opens with Anakin and Luco walking into a room to meet Umbaran soldiers for an arranged swap. Anakin pushes back on how the prisoner Dozen has been treated, and the Umbaran commander, Rhy, answers with a line about Umbara starving under Republic occupation. It sets the tone for a trade neither side is happy about.
The trade itself goes through cleanly. Dozen is handed over to Anakin, and Luco crosses back to Rhy’s side of the room.
Luco and Rhy share a parting kiss, which quietly establishes that the two Umbaran soldiers are in a relationship. Anakin then turns his attention to Hawks and starts asking questions, and Hawks admits to working for Republic Intelligence.
The mood breaks when a hologram of Fathom cuts in and sentences Rhy Cesca to death for treachery. That is the same Kundri Fathom whose Infinite Coil cult Zero Company spends the rest of the campaign chasing across the galaxy.
Seconds later a Separatist gunship opens fire on the room, blowing out the windows and scattering everyone inside.
Rhy does not survive the strike. Luco is left grieving over the body while the rest of the group scrambles for cover, and that loss follows Luco Bronc through the campaign.
Anakin closes the cinematic by jumping onto the attacking gunship, carving it apart with his blue lightsaber, and getting clear before it detonates.
Playing as Anakin Skywalker in combat
Anakin is not just cinematic set dressing. You take direct control of him for a couple of fights around the failed swap, and he is effectively unkillable during that stretch. The point is less about challenge and more about showing you what a Jedi can do on the turn-based grid before you ever have one on the roster.
His stint is short by design. Not long after it ends, Zero Company picks up Tel-Rea Vokoss, a Jedi Padawan who has gone off the rails and who sticks around as a playable squad member for the remainder of the game. Anakin does not join the permanent roster.
Note: Zero Company’s main cast is made up of new characters, so Anakin functions as a cameo alongside figures like Gorga the Hutt, Sheev Palpatine and Captain Rex rather than as a core squadmate.

When Anakin was revealed for Zero Company
Anakin’s involvement was kept quiet until the gameplay trailer that ran during Summer Game Fest on June 5th, 2026. That same trailer locked in the August 27th, 2026 release date, opened pre-orders, and teased a red-bladed lightsaber alongside the Jedi General.
Voice work carries over from the animated series as well. Performers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch return for the game, with Dee Bradley Baker voicing the clone trooper Trick.
