Every named operator in Star Wars Zero Company carries one permanent signature talent. You can swap their specializations, rebuild their focus tree, and hand them a different blaster, but that talent follows them for the whole campaign. With only four slots per mission and eight authored operators competing for them, the talent is what decides who deploys and who waits at the Den.
Quick answer: Bring Tel-Rea Vokoss and Jae Mordant in almost every squad, fill the remaining slots with Kabb Uppercut, Hawks, or BR-1 depending on whether you need kills or action points, and leave Trick benched unless a mission forces him.

Action Points are the real currency of a turn, and Advantage is a single pool the whole squad draws from. So talents that hand out extra AP, refund AP, or kill something without spending either one are worth more than talents that only add a stat. Exclusive access to a specialization no recruit can copy is the second tiebreaker, followed by how far the talent scales as you pour Focus into it.
The placements reflect the game as it plays in September 2026, on the launch build that arrived on August 27th. Class changes open at the Personnel console starting in Cycle 3. They cost nothing, and Focus spent on a class tree is refunded when you switch, so a weak starting specialization is never a permanent problem. Focus spent on a signature talent stays where you put it.

Free kills and free action points rank highest
Jae Mordant has the single best talent in the game. Final Shot triggers automatically after an allied attack and executes any enemy left at 4 Health or less, with the threshold climbing to 10 Health as you upgrade it and the trigger count reaching twice per turn at the top ranks. It spends no AP and no Advantage. The only requirement is line of sight on the target at the moment it drops into range, which occasionally means paying AP to reposition her, and a couple of executions still leave you ahead.
Kabb Uppercut is the most aggressive version of the same idea. Uppercut costs 1 AP, rushes a target, shoves it backward, and refunds every AP spent if the blow kills. Chain it after movement and a clean kill can hand back up to 3 AP, which is effectively a free turn. Even when it fails to finish the job, the knockback slams enemies into objects for impact damage and can push an exposed target through an ally’s Overwatch cone.
Hawks generates value without taking an action at all. Fearless Leader grants every operator +1 Assist Damage, scaling to +4 Assist Damage and +3 Defense at maximum rank. The talent also unlocks Pico-5, which spends Advantage to hand another operator +1 AP. That button is what keeps him in the core four, and it is available every turn as long as the Advantage pool holds. Hawks also joins every story mission, and his defeat ends the mission outright, so keep him in cover.
BR-1 is the quiet support pick. Built-In Comlink transfers 1 AP to a single ally once per turn, and the Coordinated Support ultimate pushes that further by granting +1 AP to the whole squad, rising to +2 at maximum rank. Predictive Analytics adds +2 Defense to all allies, scaling to +6. The droid also carries three utility items, which means three grenade types in one mission while your other operators carry something else.

Tel-Rea Vokoss is the one operator you cannot rebuild
Strong with the Force starts every turn with 2 stacks of Harmony, rising to 6 at maximum rank, and Harmony feeds both her lightsaber attacks and her Deflection. She gets more dangerous and harder to kill the longer a fight runs. That passive alone would not be enough for the top tier, but she is the only route to the Padawan and Wayseeker trees, and no recruit at the Den can be assigned to either.
Her real job is moving enemies where you want them. Push and Pull drag targets out of cover from range, and they hit without a roll, which makes them reliable damage as well as setup. Lightsaber Throw clears several targets in one activation for 10 Advantage, and Shockwave covers a wide area. The standard trick is to set an ally on Overwatch, then shove a target through that cone to turn one Force ability into two attacks.
The cost is risk. She works from the most exposed ground on the map, she cannot be moved into a standard class, and losing her removes the Jedi trees from that campaign permanently.
B tier operators compete with effects you already have
Combat Jump might be the single most powerful talent in raw terms. Cly Kullervo leaps to a target point, reaching up to 23 meters at maximum rank, pushes every nearby enemy out of position, applies Burning at the top rank, and triggers neither Overwatch nor Retaliation. Her ElectroWeb Dart ignores Evasion, and ElectroWeb Surge detonates every dart on the field while ignoring Defense, which can wipe a clustered group outright.
She sits in B tier because of competition rather than quality. Grenades and Force Push already cover displacement and status damage, her darts and jump all drain the same shared Advantage pool, and she is locked to the Mandalorian Warrior specialization. Pair her with Scout so Combat Recon can pay for that Advantage habit, otherwise she starves everyone else’s ultimates.
Luco Bronc is the most consistent sniper on the roster and the sensible substitute when a regular is unavailable. Combat Gas grants 3 stacks of Sharpened Senses, up to 6 at maximum, with each stack adding 5% Chance-to-Hit and +1 Ranged Attack Damage. One stack burns off after every ranged attack, so the talent rewards a few heavy shots rather than volume fire. It is effective and unexciting, largely because his base kit is already accurate. He is also the best Overwatch partner in the squad, since any push effect from Kabb, Cly, or Tel-Rea can drive a target straight across his firing line.

Trick’s talent only pays out after something goes wrong
For My Brothers revives Trick at the start of the next turn, once per combat, at half health, with upgrades restoring more health and eventually preventing the injuries that come from being downed. Every other signature talent is something you want to use as often as possible. This one is something you hope never fires, because the whole point of the game is keeping operators upright.
That reactive design is why he lands last, not a lack of firepower. He is a solid gunner with a repeater, Rocket Strike clears groups along with their cover, and a Soldier plus Heavy build turns him into a wall that can taunt and retaliate. Note that Focus poured into For My Brothers is Focus pulled away from upgrades that affect every turn, which is the real cost of investing in him.
Specialization pairings for each operator
| Operator | Specializations | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Jae Mordant | Scout / Gunslinger | Combat Recon funds the squad’s Advantage while she holds sightlines for Final Shot |
| Tel-Rea Vokoss | Padawan / Wayseeker (locked) | Push, Pull, Shockwave, and Lightsaber Throw cover control and burst |
| Kabb Uppercut | Assault / Soldier | Bull Rush closes the gap, Strength raises melee damage into Uppercut kill range |
| Hawks | Sharpshooter / Scoundrel | Backline damage with Identify Weakness feeding guaranteed crits |
| BR-1 | Astromech / Analytics | AP transfers, squad defense, and three utility slots |
| Cly Kullervo | Mandalorian Warrior / Scout | Scout replaces the Advantage her darts and jump consume |
| Luco Bronc | Sharpshooter / Scoundrel | Few heavy shots preserve Sharpened Senses stacks |
| Trick | Soldier / Heavy | Extra health, Retaliation, and taunt to lock down a position |
Tiers describe how reliably each operator earns a slot, not how fun they are to play. S tier talents produce value in every fight on every map, A tier talents do the same with a positioning or Advantage tax attached, B tier talents duplicate something the squad can already do, and C tier waits for a mistake. Because specializations and focus trees are free to rebuild from Cycle 3 onward, the only decision you are locked into is which talents you build the rest of the squad around.
