Sticks and Bones in World of Warcraft: Full Quest Walkthrough

Where the six Dry Branches sit near Brill, what fights to expect, and who takes the delivery.

Sticks and Bones is a short errand quest in Tirisfal Glades that hands you a basket and sends you into the woods outside Brill for firewood. It takes only a few minutes, but the branches blend into the ground texture badly enough that players regularly walk straight past them.

Quick answer: Loot 6 Dry Branches from the ground around tree clusters southwest of Brill, then hand them to Eleanor Shackleton at her camp in the hills west of town.

Because the quest is not shareable, every member of a group has to pick it up from the quest giver individually. The Collecting Basket is handed to you on acceptance, and a version of it comes back as a reward once you deliver the wood.

How to start Sticks and Bones in Brill

Deathguard Bartholomew stands in Brill and offers the quest to any Horde character who has reached level 4. His pitch is straightforward. An associate of his, Eleanor Shackleton, is camped in the hills to the west and lives by the rule that you should gather five times more firewood than you think you need. Accept the quest and the basket lands in your bags.

Where Dry Branches spawn in Tirisfal Glades

Open your map after accepting the quest and the search area is highlighted in the woods just outside Brill. Everything you need sits within a short run of the town, mostly southwest and around the cobblestone path.

A few rules make the hunt much faster:

  • Branches sit on the ground at the base of trees, often tucked behind trunks and roots.
  • Tree clusters are the best targets, not lone trees. Three branches spawn around the cluster near 55.39, 55.54.
  • Each branch respawns after roughly 30 seconds, so you can circle a single cluster instead of ranging far.
  • They camouflage against the ground texture. Sweep your mouse over the grass and watch for the cursor to change to a gear.

Collect all 6 Dry Branches

Leave Brill and head southwest into the trees. Slow down as soon as you reach the first cluster of trunks and start scanning the ground rather than running through it.
Click the first Dry Branch you spot. The quest tracker updates to Dry Branch 1/6, which confirms you are looting the right object and not a decorative prop.
Work around the same cluster and check behind every trunk. Branches frequently sit on the far side of a tree from where you approach, so a full lap of each cluster is worth the few extra seconds.

Cross the cobblestone path and repeat the sweep on the next set of trees. The grassy stretch east of the path holds several more branches and is usually busy with other players doing the same quest.

Keep looting until the objective reads Dry Branch 6/6. If a cluster runs dry, wait out the short respawn instead of hiking to a new part of the forest.

Decrepit Darkhounds roam the same tree line and will attack on sight. They go down quickly at this level, but pull them away from a cluster before looting so you are not interrupted mid-click.

Turn in the quest to Eleanor Shackleton

With the basket full, open your map and follow the turn-in marker uphill into the hills west of Brill. The camp is easy to identify from a distance thanks to a white tent pitched on the slope.

Eleanor Shackleton, flagged as an Adventurer, stands at the camp. Talk to her, open the Sticks and Bones dialog and choose Complete Quest. The reward is experience, a coin payout, 100 reputation with Undercity, and the Collecting Basket.

Confirm the quest is marked complete

Sticks and Bones disappears from your quest log the moment you accept the reward, and the experience and coin gains scroll across your screen. If you want a hard confirmation, paste this into chat:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(86784))

A response of true means the quest is recorded as finished on that character.

The Ringing Deeps quest with the same name

There is a second, unrelated Sticks and Bones in modern retail, added in patch 11.0.2 for The War Within. It shares nothing with the Tirisfal Glades errand apart from the title, so check your zone before following any branch-hunting instructions.

The nests sit on the peaks and ridges around the Rumbling Waste and are marked on your minimap. Burning one pulls any Waste Flayers nearby, so expect a fight at each stop unless you have a way to neutralize the guard first. Completion is worth close to 10,000 experience plus a gold payout, and Kagfritha takes the turn-in where you started.

Whichever version you are on, the shape of the task is the same. Find six objects in a tight area, deal with the wildlife that guards them, and return to the quest giver. The Tirisfal Glades version is purely a low-level detour with a small reputation bump attached, while the Ringing Deeps version slots into the Revenge in the Rumbling Wastes storyline and leads directly into In a Pinch.
