The prologue of The Blood of Dawnwalker hands Coen a Training Sword and a common blade in the mines, and neither is worth much once real fights start. There is a far better option sitting in an unmarked chest a short run from home, and nothing in the story points you toward it.
Quick answer: Head northeast out of the village in Lesko Glen along the dirt path until you reach the wooden archway of the outcast’s burial ground, climb the stone ledge on the left, and open the chest inside the green-lit cave to take the Sturdy Battlesword.
Sturdy Battlesword stats and passive
This is a Superior Greatsword at Level 1, so there is no level gate keeping you out of it during the prologue. It swings slowly, but the damage per hit is far above anything else you are carrying at this point.
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Superior Greatsword |
| Level | 1 |
| DPS | 50 (+50) |
| Damage | 33–47 |
| Attack Speed | Slow |
| Passive | +6% Activation Charge Restoration from Perfect Block |
| Value | 2.10 |
| Weight | 21 |
The +50 in the DPS field is the comparison against what Coen has equipped at that moment, which means the sword roughly doubles your output the second you swap to it. The Perfect Block passive matters more than it looks, since blocking well feeds your activation charge back and lets you use abilities more often in the fights that follow.
Take care of it and it shall take care of you.

The cleanest window is right after you pick up the errand to fetch medicine for Esme, while you still have free movement around Lesko Glen. The whole detour is a straight run on foot with no combat in the way.

Everything inside the secret chest
The sword is the reason to make the trip, but the chest is not empty otherwise. The 35 Denarius alone is more coin than Coen has on hand for most of the prologue.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sturdy Battlesword | 1 |
| Denarius | 35 |
| Minor Revitalizing Tonic | 1 |
| Golden Tableware | 1 |

Once the chest is emptied, sweep the rest of the cave. The bodies and containers around it hold Torn Trousers, Dog Hide, and a Broken Spoon, which are junk to wear but still sell.

Equip the sword and confirm it worked
Looting the chest does not equip anything. Open the character menu, go to the inventory, and place the Sturdy Battlesword in your weapon slot to replace the Training Sword.
You know it worked when the weapon card reads Superior Greatsword, Level 1, with 50 DPS and a 33–47 damage range. If the green +50 comparison figure has disappeared, that simply means the sword is already the one Coen is holding.
Note: the greatsword is heavy at 21 weight. If you have been hoarding scrap from every barrel in the village, drop or sell the junk before the mass so carrying it does not slow you down.
Prologue timing: Grab it before sundown
The prologue runs on a clock. Actions such as collecting the herbs from Anca or lingering to practice Latin push the day forward by time segments, and every quest still in progress fails the moment time passes sundown and the blood mass begins.
That makes the burial ground detour something to handle early in the day, while you still have segments in hand. Waiting until you are one step away from the church is how players end up walking into the mass with the Training Sword still equipped.
After the mass, Coen wakes up wounded in the mines and the first thing the game asks is that you open the inventory and equip your gear before pushing deeper. The Sturdy Battlesword carries you through that stretch comfortably, and because weapons can be upgraded later, it stays useful well past the point where the prologue lets go of you.
