Tear of Sorrow in Windrose - Where to Farm It

Tear of Sorrow in Windrose - Where to Farm It

Tear of Sorrow is a Rare alchemical resource in Windrose, described in-game as an incredibly clear liquid with no taste or smell. It exists for one main reason: it gates the upgrade from a basic Healing Potion to the Great Healing Potion, and it feeds the entire Infused Elixir line. You will not find it in starter biomes — it only drops inside the Cursed Swamps.

💧
Quick answer: Travel to the Cursed Swamps biome and kill Plague Crushers (Plague-corrupted enemies). Tear of Sorrow drops directly from them. The Infected Witch boss in the swamp also drops it on defeat.

Unlock the Cursed Swamps first

The swamp is a late-tier biome and is not reachable from the starting islands. You need to progress your ship and gear past the Foothills tier before sailing in, because the area applies a constant infection pressure on your health bar. Going in with base armor and a low-grade weapon is the most common reason runs end early.

Bring food buffs active before you arrive, stock bandages, and pack a base Healing Potion or two. The biome punishes downtime more than it punishes mistakes in combat.

How to farm Tear of Sorrow from Plague Crushers

Step 1: Sail into the Cursed Swamps and look for Plague-corrupted enemy variants patrolling the dark pools and ruined structures. Plague Crushers are the named drop source — regular swamp wildlife will not produce Tears.

Step 2: Engage them with a mid-tier weapon (Iron-grade or better is comfortable). They hit hard and chain attacks, so kite around terrain and use dodge windows rather than trading damage.

Step 3: Loot the body after the kill. Tear of Sorrow appears in the loot window as a clear droplet icon. Stacks cap at 30, so you can carry plenty without weight becoming an issue at 0.1 per unit.

Step 4: Verify you got the drop by checking your Resources tab. The item shows the description "An incredibly clear liquid with no taste or smell."

The Infected Witch route

The Infected Witch is a boss-tier encounter in the swamp that also drops Tear of Sorrow on defeat. She summons additional Plague enemies during the fight, which makes the encounter long and unforgiving but doubles as a farming opportunity, since the summons can also drop Tears.

Clear her arena, then sweep nearby chests on the way out. Mysterious Spice and Ancient Scraps frequently sit in the same loot pockets, so a single swamp expedition can cover three supply chains at once.

What Tear of Sorrow unlocks

The drop is the bottleneck for the upgrade path from Healing Potion to Great Healing Potion. Without it, healing in late-biome content stays at first-aid level while incoming damage scales up. It also feeds the Infused Elixir family, which stacks on top of food buffs.

Recipe OutputTear of Sorrow Required
Great Healing Potion×1
Infused Elixir of Concentration×2
Infused Elixir of Cruelty×2
Infused Elixir of Firm Hand×2
Infused Elixir of Precision×2

The Elixir of Concentration is the standout output, granting a 40% critical damage increase for its duration. That makes Tears a priority pull before any boss attempt, not just a healing reagent.

Why a run sometimes returns empty

Two failure patterns are common. First, players clear the wrong enemies — standard swamp wildlife and non-Plague variants do not drop the resource, only Plague-corrupted mobs do. Second, players try to farm the swamp before unlocking it, which is not possible because the biome is gated behind earlier progression.

⚠️
Note: The infection effect in the Cursed Swamps drains health continuously. Plan exit routes and keep healing items hotbarred. Dying inside the biome can cost the entire farming haul.

Pair every swamp trip with chest sweeps for Mysterious Spice and ruin looting for Ancient Scraps. Tears are heavy enough as a stack count, but they share routes with several late-game crafting materials, so a focused two-hour run can fuel a healing stockpile and a full elixir set before the next major encounter.
