Cai joins the five main characters in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, with a kit suited to a swift, mounted combatant who can deal either physical or magical damage. His personal skill benefits him while he rides, his growths support both offensive stats, and his riding and spear proficiencies match the game’s top cavalry classes. The strongest build develops these traits instead of steering him into a different role.

Quick answer: Keep Cai mounted the entire game, from Ornius Rider through to the Divine-tier The Cavalier, pair him with a Red Meganius mount for the Strength and HP boost, and arm him with spears plus the Levin Sword for ranged magic damage.

Cai’s abilities and Bloodmarks

Cai’s personal skill, Brio, grants Movement +1 under normal conditions, and climbs to Movement +2 with Combat Arts +1 while he is in Overblaze. That extra reach is the foundation of the whole build, since it stacks on top of whatever mounted class he is in.

As he levels, Cai learns Flamekeeper, which makes him and all nearby allies immune to the negative effects of Underworld Flames and halves damage taken while standing in them. His two Bloodmarks add consistent offense. Diadem of the Apostle grants Hit +20 when attacking with a 20 percent trigger, and Diadem of Duality grants Atk +3 when attacking with a 25 percent trigger.

Stat growths and magic options

Cai’s growths total 370, which is where his flexibility comes from. Strength and Speed both sit at 45 percent, HP matches at 45 percent, and his Dexterity is strong as well, giving him firepower, reliable accuracy, and follow-up attacks all at once. Magic lands at 40 percent, which is high enough to make a hybrid approach worthwhile instead of a gimmick.

His spell list backs that up. On the Black Magic side he can learn Fire, Thunder, Bolganone, and Thoron, while his White Magic covers Heal, Nosferatu, Seraphim, Recover, and Warp. The practical upshot is that Cai can threaten targets with a spear, dip into magic range when the matchup calls for it, and even self-sustain through Nosferatu.

The build keeps Cai on a mount from start to finish and routes his spear proficiency into offense. The table below shows the progression by certification tier, with the role each class plays.

Armored Ornius Rider earns its place in the Specialty tier for two reasons. It grants the mobility to leap over obstacles, and its mastery, Sense Threat, hands Cai Avoid +20 whenever a foe is effective against him. That turns one of a cavalry unit’s biggest weaknesses into a survival tool.

At the Advanced tier the choice comes down to two mounted classes. Dragoon provides Besieger, which grants Hit +20 against enemies sitting on favorable terrain, making Cai a dependable answer to defensive positions. Caladrius leans the other way, giving him the flexibility to attack with weapons or Black Magic depending on the encounter. Either keeps him mounted and moving.

Orichaldia is the Master-rank stop. It carries solid defensive growth and its mastery, Fierce Spear, stops enemies from landing a follow-up attack during combat. That pairs naturally with Cai’s spear investment and his anti-cavalry role.

Why The Cavalier is the endgame class

The Cavalier is a Divine-tier class, meaning it is a unique one-unit assignment rather than something every cavalry fighter can reach. For Cai it is the strongest final destination. It provides 10 base Movement, a +105 total stat growth bonus, and two class traits that remove his remaining weaknesses.

Golden Ride neutralizes effectiveness against cavalry, so the anti-mount weapons that normally punish riders simply stop working on him. Divine Dexterity adds Dex +10, which raises his hit rate and his odds of triggering his Bloodmarks. Combined with his Movement stacking from Brio, Cai becomes a mounted unit that reaches almost anywhere on the map and hits reliably once he arrives.

The Red Meganius mount

Mounts carry their own stat modifiers, and the Red Meganius is the pick that suits Cai’s attacking profile. It provides a +15% HP and +15% Strength growth boost, trading away some Speed for that raw power, with small bumps to Dexterity and Defense on top.

To capture the Red Meganius, tend to it in Savielon at Axion Gorge, south of Dagsion. Cai can use the Farming feature alongside Lure and Stable, so gathering and raising mounts fits naturally into his route without requiring an extra detour.

Endgame weapons and skills

The final loadout mixes magic range with dedicated anti-cavalry tools. The Levin Sword covers damage from a distance, the spears handle close pressure, and the Ridersbane exists specifically to delete mounted opponents.

WeaponRole
Levin Sword+3Magic-range damage
Da Mina Spear+3Spear offense
Star Spear+2Spear offense
Ridersbane+3Anti-cavalry finisher

The equipped skills tie the build together, keeping Cai’s offense, mobility, and durability active at the same time:

  • Flamekeeper, for Underworld Flame immunity and halved damage inside them
  • Aegis, for extra defense against ranged attacks
  • Besieger, carried over for Hit +20 against foes on favorable terrain
  • Spearfaire, boosting his spear damage
  • Cavalry Move, for additional mounted repositioning

Put together, Cai ends the game as a high-mobility cavalry unit who can pressure almost any target, shrug off cavalry counters through Golden Ride, and switch to magic range whenever the physical option is worse. The whole path works because it never fights his natural strengths. It simply sharpens the mounted, mixed-damage fighter he already wants to be.
