The Blood of Dawnwalker: All Good Things Walkthrough and Combat Tutorial

All Good Things is the first main mission in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it doubles as the game’s combat school. It starts on its own the moment you begin a new game, running you through four objectives while teaching directional attacks, blocking, dodging, and two vampire abilities. Finish it and you walk away with the Crafting Recipe: Minor Mending Ointment.

Quick answer: Follow Lunka north through the gorge, crawl through the bloodstained tunnel, then beat three soldiers using directional blocks (L1 + Left Stick toward the incoming attack). After Lunka turns Coen, use Voracious Bite (hold L2, select with Left Stick, press X) to heal, clear the rest of the soldiers, then hold R2 to Shadowstep across the gaps until you reach the church.

All Good Things objectives in order

The quest has four tracked objectives, and each one gates a different piece of the tutorial. Nothing here is missable, and the path is linear throughout.

Find Lunka in the forest

After the opening scene in the wheat field, you take control of Coen at the bottom of a gorge. There is only one direction to travel, so head north toward the marker while Coen tracks his sister’s voice and suffers a few visions along the way.

A blood trail leads to a rough tunnel dug into the rock wall. Crouch and crawl through it — on the far side you pass a pile of dismembered bodies, which is scenery rather than an interaction.

Keep pushing along the canyon until an icy crevasse forces you to squeeze through a gap. Beyond it, Lunka is standing over a dead soldier, and a second soldier who rushes her does not survive the encounter. Coen is then surrounded, which starts the fight.

Defeat the soldiers: sword combat controls

The first half of the fight is human combat only, against three soldiers. Attacks are directional. Hold L1 and press R1 while pushing the stick to swing right, left, up, or down. Pressing R1 alone performs an Omniattack with a randomised direction.

Vary your angles. Enemies can block, and their block chance climbs if you keep hitting from the same direction, so alternating between two or three attack directions keeps damage flowing.

Omniblock vs directional block

Holding L1 on its own is an Omniblock, which catches the incoming swing but drains stamina. Attacking, sprinting, and Omniblocking all pull from the same stamina pool, and emptying it makes Coen Fatigued — his attacks become slower and weaker until it refills.

The directional block is the better habit. Hold L1 and push the Left Stick toward the side the attack is coming from (for example, L1 plus Left Stick left to block from the left). A successful directional block costs no stamina at all.

On Story, Fair, and Challenging difficulty, a shield icon around the enemy tells you which direction to block. On Duelist there is no on-screen indicator, so you have to read the soldier’s wind-up animation instead.

Perfect block timing

Choosing your block direction just before the hit lands converts it into a Perfect Block, which staggers the soldier and leaves an opening for a free swing. On the three lower difficulties the shield icon turns red at the correct moment, so treat that colour change as your cue.

The tutorial asks you to block enemy attacks three times before it moves on. Clear all three soldiers and a cutscene plays: Coen is stabbed, and Lunka feeds him her blood to turn him.

Vampire form: Voracious Bite, dodging, and Activation Charges

You come out of the cutscene in vampire form with low health, and the game immediately teaches you how to fix that.

Hold L2 to open the Active Ability selection wheel. Time slows while it is open, so there is no rush.
Use the Left Stick to highlight Voracious Bite, then press X to use it on the nearest enemy. Coen drinks their blood and restores 60% of a health segment.

Active abilities run on Activation Charges, shown above the health bar. They refill on their own over time, but successful blocks and attacks speed that recharge up considerably. Staying aggressive and parrying well is what keeps Voracious Bite available.

Dodging and perfect dodges

Press Circle with a stick direction to dodge. Roll sideways or backward to escape a swing — dodging toward the enemy without the right timing still eats the hit.

The Perfect Dodge is the exception. Dodge into an attack from the left or right just before it connects and you spend no stamina and get a clean attack window. You can also toggle Target Lock with R3 if you would rather keep the camera pinned on one soldier.

Work through the remaining soldiers with the full kit — directional attacks, directional blocks, dodges, and a bite when health drops. Once the last one is down, Coen confronts Lunka, she mocks his new nature, and she runs off.

Follow Lunka: how to use Shadowstep

Lunka heads deeper down the canyon and starts openly using Vrakhiri powers to stay ahead of you. That unlocks Shadowstep, a short-range teleport that closes gaps you cannot jump.

Hold R2 to enter aiming mode. A target indicator appears at the destination you are pointing at.
Move the camera with the Right Stick until the indicator sits on the ledge or platform you want. Valid landing spots are the only ones it will lock to.
Release R2 to teleport. For quick repositioning, a short tap of R2 sends Coen forward without aiming at all.

Chain Shadowsteps from platform to platform until the canyon opens onto a snowy hillside dotted with grave markers. The path climbs toward a church at the top.

Go inside the church and finish the quest

Walk up the hill toward the church and a cutscene takes over. Coen finds his family inside being attacked and turned by Lunka and the other Vrakhiri — and then his father, Pieter, wakes him. The whole sequence was a dream.

You know the quest is done when control returns in Coen’s bedroom and the next main mission, Withering Away, takes over the tracker. The Crafting Recipe: Minor Mending Ointment reward is waiting in the chest inside that room, alongside the Comfortable Tunic, Trousers with Wrappings, Grey Loafers, and Excerpts from Fabulae.

Note: none of the combat mechanics taught here are one-off tutorial gimmicks. Directional blocking, Activation Charge management, Voracious Bite, and Shadowstep all carry through the Prologue and beyond, so the fight against those three soldiers is worth replaying in your head before you get to the mines.
