The Blood of Dawnwalker: Do the Like Father, Like Son Choices Matter?

Neither reply to Pieter changes the outcome, so pick whichever line fits your version of Coen.

Neither reply to Pieter changes the outcome, so pick whichever line fits your version of Coen.

During the Like Father, Like Son quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, Coen sits down with his father, Pieter, after a sparring match and hears about Vladimir’s plan to rebel against Brencis. Vladimir wants Pieter to lead the villagers in an armed push into the silver mines, and the game hands you two headline replies: back the uprising or reject it out of fear for your family.

Quick answer: Pick either line. Saying “It’s about time we stand up for ourselves” or “This plan is crazy. We’ll never win” produces the same result, because the story here is fixed and Pieter’s decision does not change.

What each reply to Pieter does

After yielding in the sparring session, Pieter reveals Vladimir’s intent to attack Brencis. The prompt gives you two main answers plus two extra lines that only add context. None of them alter the branch you end up on.

Dialogue optionEffect
It’s about time we stand up for ourselves. No story effect. Supports the rebellion in tone only.
This plan is crazy. We’ll never win.No story effect. Opposes it in tone only.
They need your military experience.Extra context. Does not move the branch forward.
People say the mines are haunted.Extra context. Does not move the branch forward.

Whether you support Pieter or push back, he shows no meaningful reaction and keeps his stance. You cannot talk him into joining or refusing Vladimir’s rebellion.

The follow-up line also has no impact

Because your first pick carries no weight, the reply that comes after it is equally free. You will see options such as “So I have no say over what happens next?” and “Whatever you decide, you can count on me.” Choose either one. Pieter’s plan and the scene’s outcome stay identical.

When choices in The Blood of Dawnwalker do matter

This exchange is one of several fixed moments during the Prologue, where the narrative is locked and your words are for flavor. That is not the norm for the rest of the game. Once you become a Dawnwalker and leave the Prologue behind, plenty of decisions carry small or large consequences, from whether a specific character survives an event to the fate of Vale Sangora as a whole.

Note: As you play further, it becomes clear which decisions shift the story and which are purely cosmetic. For this conversation with Pieter, treat both answers as roleplay. Say what suits the Coen you want, and continue with the quest.
