The Blood of Dawnwalker: Herbal Remedies II Manual Location

Where the Kobold’s Nest chest sits, what else it holds, and what the perk heals per level.

The Herbal Remedies II perk stays greyed out in the development tree until Coen reads its manual, and the earliest reliable copy is sitting in the open, guarded by a handful of kobolds. You do not need to enter a cave, solve anything, or finish a quest to get it.

Quick answer: Loot the yellow chest outside the Kobold’s Nest cave entrance, west of Svartdag City and south of Rockfall (southeast of the Laslea Gate Shrine). Kill the small pack of kobolds at the mouth of the cave first, then open the chest next to the cart of bodies.

Kobold’s Nest location on the map

Open the world map and look at the stretch of land west of Svartdag City, below Rockfall. The marker you want is labelled Kobold’s Nest, and hovering it shows the warning “A deadly beast lives here.” Set it as your tracked destination so the on-screen marker leads you in.

Note: the map has more than one Kobold’s Nest. Other nests sit east of the Southern Swampside Shrine and north of the Maragir Wealds Watchtower Shrine, and those hold different manuals. The Herbal Remedies II copy is specifically the nest near Rockfall, southeast of the Laslea Gate Shrine.

How to get the Herbal Remedies II Manual

Fast travel to the closest shrine and ride toward the tracked Kobold’s Nest marker. The approach ends at a rocky cave mouth set into a hillside, with the “Enter the cave” prompt appearing as you get near.

The rocky entrance to the Kobold’s Nest, with the “Enter the cave” objective flagged on screen.
Clear the small pack of kobolds patrolling the entrance. They are the little green enemies that swarm in a group, and they die quickly to normal sword attacks, but they will interrupt looting if you leave any alive.

Stay outside. The chest is not inside the nest, so you can ignore the “Enter the cave” objective entirely and skip whatever is waiting deeper in. Look to the side of the entrance for a cart loaded with bodies.

The manual sits outside the nest, so the cave objective can be left alone.
Open the yellow chest beside the cart. The loot window pops up with several items stacked in it, including the manual itself.

Use Loot All rather than picking items individually, then read the manual from your inventory. Reading it is what makes the perk purchasable — carrying it does nothing on its own.

The armour and shortsword are both level 11 to 12 gear, so this chest is worth the detour even if you already own the manual from a vendor.

What Herbal Remedies II does

Herbal Remedies II is a Witchcraft perk that can be used anytime. It adds an instant heal on top of whatever you drink or eat, triggering from all consumables rather than a specific potion type. It has three ranks, and each rank raises the size of that bonus heal.

RankAdditional instant Heal
Level 15% Health
Level 210% Health
Level 315% Health

Buying the manual from a vendor instead

Skill manuals are not limited to a single copy, so a missed chest is not a dead end. Witchcraft vendors stock this one, and extra copies also drop from defeated enemies.

How to confirm the perk unlocked

Open the character development tree and find Herbal Remedies II under the Witchcraft perks. Before you read the manual it shows the requirement line “Find or buy the Herbal Remedies II Manual to make this available” and cannot be bought. After reading, that requirement disappears and the perk becomes purchasable with skill points, with its counter still sitting at 0 ranks until you actually buy the first level.

If the perk is still locked, the usual cause is that the manual is sitting unread in your inventory. Reading it is a separate action from looting it, and buying rank 1 is a third step after that.

Once rank 1 is active, every consumable you use adds a 5% health top-up on top of its normal effect, which stacks up quickly during longer fights where you are already burning through potions and food.
