The Blood of Dawnwalker: Song of the Mountain Walkthrough

Meet Lacra at night, climb to the uriash village, and get Isbrand's location without turning the whole settlement hostile.

Meet Lacra at night, climb to the uriash village, and get Isbrand’s location without turning the whole settlement hostile.

Song of the Mountain is the side quest that points Coen toward Isbrand, the vampire who sired Brencis. Nobody in the valley will tell you where he is except the uriash, and reaching their village means a night climb up a snowbound mountain with Lacra at your side. The quest unlocks after A Friend Like This, starts in Svartrau City with Lacra as the quest giver, and costs four time segments for a total of 300 XP.

Quick answer: Meet Lacra at Crown Rock at night, follow the windchimes east and up the mountain, kill the Pack Leader and the Ravenous Bear along the way, then defuse the uriash standoff with dialogue instead of fighting. The Matriarch takes you to her hut and reveals that Isbrand is chained in a cave below the village.

The objectives run in this order: find out where Isbrand is, meet Lacra near the Crown Rock at night, climb the mountain with Lacra following the windchimes, and follow the Elder. The first objective is the umbrella goal and stays active until the Matriarch talks.

Meet Lacra at Crown Rock at night

The rendezvous marker sits near Crown Rock, close to Rockfells, and it only triggers after dark. The objective displays a timer icon, but letting in-game time pass does not appear to fail it. Head to the campfire in the cave and walk up to Lacra to start the cutscene.

Lacra opens by suggesting the two of you drain a shepherd camped nearby. You can go along with it and use Voracious Bite on the man, or talk her out of it. Neither choice changes how the rest of the quest plays out, so pick whichever fits your Coen.

Climb the mountain following the windchimes

The route runs east and upward, and the uriash have hung windchimes at every correct turn. If you lose the trail, hold Focus Mode (L2/LT) and the chimes light up. There is no branching path to worry about, only vertical sections and a few animal fights.

Leave the campfire and walk the snowy trail past the sheep herd until it dead-ends at the base of the mountain. Use Planeshift to grab the wall and climb the first face.
A wolf pack attacks the moment you pull yourself onto the ledge. Clear them out before moving on, then head northwest toward the next climbable wall.

A windchime hangs at the top of that climb, confirming you are on the right line. Keep working along the mountain edge and a rockslide will kick off. It is only a screen shake, so keep moving.
Continue until the path stops at a wall of rubble. A cutscene plays and Lacra blows the barrier apart with blood magic.

On the other side, a larger wolf pack led by the Pack Leader is waiting. Thin out the regular wolves first so the Pack Leader is not backed up while you fight it.
Keep ascending along the chimes. Somewhere in the conversation on the way up, Lacra explains why Coen smells wrong to her kind, since a Dawnwalker is half vrakhir and half human.

A Ravenous Bear blocks the last stretch of trail. Kill it, climb the final wall, and listen for owls hooting, which means the village entrance is close.

Note: an optional mountain goat wanders the mid-section of the trail if you want the extra kill, but it has no bearing on the quest.

Dialogue choices to avoid fighting the uriash

Uriash Guards and Warriors surround you at the entrance and demand you drop your weapons. Lacra immediately gets aggressive, and this is the one part of the quest that can go badly wrong. If the standoff turns into combat, you have to kill every uriash in the village to continue, which removes several vendors and locks you out of the A Mother’s Plea quest.

Pick these options in order to keep things peaceful:

  • All right, fine.
  • Lacra, calm down.
  • Nobody needs to die.
  • Can we stop with the hostilities?
  • What do you mean?
  • What more proof do you need?
  • [do nothing]
  • [do nothing]
  • It’s clearly a test. Go on.

The two “do nothing” prompts come while the uriash pelt you with stones. Retaliating or moving breaks the test. You should also ask them not to hit Lacra when the option appears. Once you tell the Matriarch you knew it was a test, she is satisfied and waves you in, recognising Coen as a friend of Ocha.

Follow the Elder to learn Isbrand’s location

The objective switches to “Follow the Elder” and the Matriarch walks you through the settlement to her hut. Stay with her rather than wandering off. At the far end of the village, talk to her about Isbrand to close out the quest.

What she tells you is the payoff. Brencis beat Isbrand and locked him in a cave directly beneath the village. He has been in chains there since she last saw him two years ago.

How to confirm the quest completed

Song of the Mountain closes the moment the Matriarch finishes explaining where Isbrand is, and Hive and Seek starts in the same beat with no travel in between. Two other things confirm a clean, peaceful finish. The Matriarch becomes a merchant you can trade with on the spot, and the rest of the uriash vendors in the village stay available.

If the quest completed but the village is empty of traders, the standoff went hostile and A Mother’s Plea is gone for that save. There is no way to undo it after the fact, so reload an earlier save if you care about that content. From here, Hive and Seek takes you down into the cave below the village, and the questline continues through Our Rotten Roots and The Night of Horrors.
