The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Hedgehog Herb Walkthrough (Razkovniche Elixir)

Grow the razkovniche plant in Oghasti and brew an elixir that permanently raises Coen's human and vampiric health.

Grow the razkovniche plant in Oghasti and brew an elixir that permanently raises Coen’s human and vampiric health.

An abandoned hut in the village of Oghasti hides one of the few permanent stat upgrades in The Blood of Dawnwalker. The side quest that starts there, The Hedgehog Herb, ends with the Razkovniche Elixir, a one-time potion that raises Coen’s maximum health for the rest of the run. Getting it means talking to a dead herbalist, planting a blood-drinking seed, and giving up a full in-game day of the story clock.

Quick answer: Go to the northeastern house in Oghasti during daylight, grab the axe by the door and the watering can beside the hut, use Compel Soul on the corpse and show it those items, plant the razkovniche seed in the pot and feed it your blood, then come back exactly one in-game day later to harvest the plant and have the elixir brewed by Coen, Anca, or the Silberstein medic.

The Hedgehog Herb quest details and rewards

No NPC hands you this quest. It triggers on arrival, has no prerequisites, and can be lost entirely if you let the story clock run out before finishing it.

Where to find the alchemist’s house in Oghasti

Oghasti sits in the southern stretch of Vale Sangora, in The Silts region southwest of Svartrau City. It is close to one of the scouting towers, and you also pass through it during the Sanzhani Fairies arc, so fast travel is usually available by the time you go looking.

The village is derelict and wolves tend to hold it. Clear them first, then head for the house on the northeastern side. A quest marker appears once you get close, and a body lies on the bed inside.

Collect the axe, watering can, seeds, and recipe

Compelling the herbalist only works if you are holding the objects that meant something to him, so sweep the property before you touch the corpse. Focus Mode highlights everything that matters here in gold.

Pick up the axe lying on the ground outside the front door. It is the first of two catalyst items you will show the spirit.

Walk around to the side of the hut and take the watering can. This is the item that makes the spirit explain how the plant is grown.
Head inside and take the Razkovniche Potion Recipe from the wall beam on the right. Picking it up unlocks the Razkovniche Elixir entry in your crafting menu.
Inspect the small wooden box in the middle of the room to get the Razkovniche Seeds. Read the herbalist’s journal next to it and inspect the ceramic pot on the bench while you are there.

Question the corpse with Compel Soul (daytime only)

Compel Soul is a daytime witchcraft power, so if you arrive at night you cannot progress the quest at all. Wait for daylight before approaching the body on the bed.

With the spirit compelled, present the items one by one. The watering can and the Razkovniche Potion Recipe are the two that matter, and showing both is what teaches Coen how the razkovniche is cultivated. Without that conversation, the planting objective does not open up.

Plant the razkovniche seed and feed it your blood

Interact with the pot on the wooden table on the opposite side of the room and plant a Razkovniche Seed. This costs 1 time segment.
Feed the seed a few drops of Coen’s blood when prompted. The razkovniche is a blood-drinking plant and will not grow without it.

Leave and let a full in-game day pass — 16 time segments. Note the time of day when you plant it. If you sow the seed at noon, the plant is ready at noon the following day, so use the gap for other quests rather than idling.

Harvest the plant and kill the Vidmo

Return to the same house once the day has elapsed and check on the pot. Harvesting the grown Razkovniche Plant costs another time segment.

A Vidmo specter spawns as you step outside with the harvest. Destroy it before you leave the village. There is no way to skip the fight, and no choice made here changes the elixir you end up with.

Three ways to brew the Razkovniche Elixir

The final objective is simply to turn the plant into a potion, and the result is identical no matter who does the work. The only real difference is what it costs you.

OptionCost and requirements
Craft it yourselfFree, but you need 1x Strong Ancient Reagent (found in Ancient Ruins) and 2x Tatzelwurm Glands (dropped by Tatzelwurms)
Anca at the Crossroads InnFree, costs 1 time segment, includes a conversation with Anca about the potion
Silberstein medic in Svartrau100 denarius plus 1 time segment; she is on the southeastern side of the city

Handing it to Anca is the cleanest option if you are short on reagents, and it is the only route that unlocks her dialogue about the elixir. The medic exists as a paid fallback if you have not met Anca or would rather not backtrack to the inn.

Crafting the elixir yourself

Open the menu wheel and select Crafting.
Scroll down to the Utility Items section and select Razkovniche Elixir.
Choose Hold to Craft. Doing it this way avoids the extra time segment that asking someone else costs, but you lose the Anca scene.

How to confirm the quest is done, and why it fails

The quest closes the moment the potion is brewed. Your journal entry updates to say Coen made the razkovniche into a potion, and the Razkovniche Elixir appears in your inventory alongside the skill point and 100 XP. Drinking it applies the +20% human health and +10% vampiric health permanently.

There are only a few ways this goes wrong. Trying to question the corpse at night does nothing, since Compel Soul is daytime-only. Showing the spirit the wrong items leaves the planting step locked. Coming back before a full 16 time segments have passed means the plant is still growing. And because the quest is missable, letting the coronation deadline arrive first closes it out with the failure ending, where Coen simply decides he has no time for the house’s secrets.

Note: the elixir is a single-use item with a permanent effect, so there is no reason to hold onto it. Drink it as soon as it is brewed.

Between the day of waiting and the segments spent planting and harvesting, this is one of the more expensive side activities on the clock in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Slot the planting visit early, go do something else with the intervening day, and the permanent health bump costs you almost nothing you would not have spent anyway.
