Xanthe’s Blood Guards: Unquenchable Thirst Walkthrough (The Blood of Dawnwalker)

Everything the camp assault pays out, plus the prisoner and the Sword Shard most players walk past.

Unquenchable Thirst is one of Xanthe’s Court Activities in The Blood of Dawnwalker, filed under her Blood Guard mentors. The idea is simple enough — Xanthe keeps turning out new Blood Guards, veteran soldiers train them, and killing the instructors slows the whole pipeline down. In practice it’s a straight camp clear with two things inside it that are very easy to miss on the way out.

Quick answer: Approach the camp in Vale Sangora to start the activity, scout it from the hill above for the optional objective, then drop in and kill every soldier. Before you leave, free the prisoner and take the Sword Shard from the tent. The activity costs 3 time segments and pays 250 XP, 1 Skill Point, and a Small Vial of Vrakshin Blood.

Unquenchable Thirst location and time cost

The camp sits in Vale Sangora, and like every Court Activity it won’t show up on your map on its own. It stays an “Unknown Activity” until you physically get close, at which point the quest triggers and appears in the journal under Court. Syncing the towers first is the fast way to get white question marks on the map so you’re not sweeping terrain blind.

Nothing here is locked to day or night, and the activity stays available indefinitely until you start it. Once you do begin, treat it as a single sitting — there’s no reason to walk away halfway through.

How to clear the campsite

Track the quest from the journal and follow the marker to the ridge overlooking the camp rather than walking straight in at ground level. The route runs through fogged, swampy woodland, so the marker is more reliable than eyeballing it.
Walk to the edge of the cliff to trigger the scouting cutscene. Coen picks out the military camp, a prisoner, and the training grounds, and the objective flips to “Clear out Xanthe’s soldier’s campsite” once it finishes. This is optional, but it costs nothing and shows you the layout before you commit.

Drop down from the cliff into the campsite. A “Trespassing” warning appears immediately and the garrison turns hostile, so land somewhere you’re happy to fight rather than in the middle of the training ground.
Fight through every soldier and guard in the camp. They come at you in loose groups rather than one big pull, which gives you room to peel them off around the huts and walkways instead of taking the whole camp at once.

Focus the marked instructor when he appears. He’s the reason the activity exists, and taking him down is what the outcome text credits you for.

Sweep the outskirts before you call it done. Stragglers hold position on the wooden walkways at the camp’s edge, and the quest won’t close while any of them are alive.

Rewards and loot from the camp

The kill on the last enemy ends the activity, time rolls forward, and the quest payout lands straight away. The bodies and containers around the camp carry the rest, so loot before you fast travel out.

The Sword Shard is the one item worth doubling back for. It’s a component for the Forge It Anew quest, it sits inside one of the camp tents rather than on a body, and there’s no prompt telling you it’s there. Check the tents individually.

Free the prisoner before you leave

The captive you spotted during the scouting cutscene is still tied up after the fighting stops. Walk over and use the “Free the Prisoner” prompt. He tells Coen the soldiers had blades ready to skin him alive, Coen sends him off to find somewhere to hide, and the encounter closes out.

Note: clearing the camp raises your Infamy. That’s expected for this activity and not a sign anything went wrong.

How to confirm the quest completed

You’ll see “Quest Ended” on screen along with the XP and Skill Point tally, the clock advances, and the location shows as cleared when you open the map. The journal outcome reads that you’ve eliminated one of the Blood Guard instructors, with the hope that new recruits will be weaker for it.

If the objective is still sitting open, it’s almost always because a soldier is alive somewhere on the perimeter. Freeing the prisoner and grabbing the Sword Shard are not requirements for the quest to close — they’re extras you lose access to if you leave without doing them.

There is also a second recorded outcome, where Coen decides he doesn’t have time for the camp and heads off to face Brencis instead. Skipping it is a legitimate choice, since you don’t need every one of Xanthe’s 15 Court Activities to max her Anger — roughly three quarters is enough to unlock The Cycle of Love. Unquenchable Thirst is one of the better ones to keep on the list anyway, purely because of the Sword Shard and the blood vial.
