The Blood of Dawnwalker: Where to Loot Two Food-Filled Huts in the Prologue

Two neighboring village huts hold sausages, dried fish, venison, and more before the Blood Mass locks the prologue away.

Two neighboring village huts hold sausages, dried fish, venison, and more before the Blood Mass locks the prologue away.

Food is one of the few reliable ways to top up Coen during the opening hours of The Blood of Dawnwalker, and the prologue village hides a large stash of it in two huts that sit right next to each other. Neither one is tied to a quest, nobody hands you a marker for them, and everything inside is registered as theft when you take it. Clear both and you walk into the open world with a bag full of consumables instead of scavenging for scraps later.

Quick answer: Make a manual save first, then loot the first hut for the hanging sausages, dried fish, and the chest inside, and immediately clear the neighboring hut for venison, lamb, a pretzel, onions, and fruit juice.

Everything you can take from the two huts

The haul splits cleanly between the two buildings. The first leans toward preserved food and crafting materials, while the second is closer to a pantry.

HutContents
First hutHanging sausages, Dried Fish, plus a chest holding a Wild Boar Hide and a Saffron Milk Cap
Second hut (next door)Pretzel, venison, fruit juice, onions, lamb, and a pair of torn trousers

Most of it can be eaten on the spot or carried for later. The hide and mushroom are materials rather than food, and the torn trousers are junk-tier clothing, so treat those as bonus weight rather than the reason you came.

Make a manual save before you steal anything

The interaction prompt on these items reads Steal, not Take. That wording matters, because you are lifting goods from villagers in a settlement you still have to walk around for the rest of the prologue. Drop a manual save in a fresh slot before you open the first door so you can roll back if a reaction goes somewhere you did not intend.

The game supports 54 manual save slots, so there is no reason to overwrite anything. Keeping a spare save every few quests is good practice through the whole prologue anyway, since those quests are timed and vanish once the opening chapter ends.

Tip: Avoid killing villagers or quest givers while you are in the village. Wiping out a non-hostile NPC can permanently close off content later.

Marking the huts on the prologue map

Open the map while you are in Coen’s village during the prologue. The village cluster is small, and the two huts sit side by side within it.
Move the cursor over the hut you want and drop a Custom Marker on it. That gives you a waypoint to follow on the compass instead of guessing which door is which once you are back on foot.

Close the map and walk to the marker. The door opens without a key or a lockpick, so you can step straight inside.

Looting the first hut

Look up as soon as you enter. Sausages hang from the ceiling beams, and each one is a separate interaction rather than a single bundle.
Sweep the shelves and surfaces for the Dried Fish. It comes in a stack, so one prompt nets you several portions at once.

Open the chest tucked inside the same room. It holds a Wild Boar Hide and a Saffron Milk Cap, both useful materials rather than food.

Clearing the second hut next door

Step back outside and turn to the neighboring building. It is only a short walk, and the door opens the same way the first one did.
Work through the interior surfaces. This is where the meat sits, with venison and lamb alongside a pretzel and fruit juice.
Grab the vegetables before you leave. Onions and cabbage each carry their own Steal prompt, so it is easy to walk past one if you are moving quickly.

How to confirm you got everything

Every successful pickup pushes a short item notification on screen with the name and quantity, such as Dried Fish (5). If you clear a room and no further prompts appear when you sweep the camera across the shelves, beams, and floor, that hut is empty.

Open your inventory afterward and check the consumables tab. The venison, lamb, sausages, pretzel, onions, and fruit juice should all be listed and usable, and the hide and mushroom will sit under materials.

Two things account for most missed loot here. Items hanging from ceiling beams are easy to skip because the camera naturally sits at chest height, and the chest in the first hut can be obscured by furniture if you only walk the center of the room.

Fitting the food run into the prologue clock

The prologue runs on a limited daylight window before the Blood Mass, shown as a bar split into eight segments. Time does not tick away on its own. It is spent like a currency when you complete quests and pick certain dialogue options, which means walking between two huts and looting them does not eat into your day the way a quest does.

Even so, the prologue quests themselves are timed and missable, and they disappear entirely once the chapter ends. The one you cannot afford to lose is Withering Away, which sends you to the local healer Anca for medicinal herbs so you can brew Esme’s medicine with hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs. Fail it and Coen’s mother dies.

The sensible order is to bank the food early, then spend your remaining segments on the quests that actually consume time. Nothing you take from these huts is needed for a prologue objective, so it is pure stock for the open world of Vale Sangora once Coen becomes a Dawnwalker and healing mid-fight gets considerably harder.
