The Deep Update in Fisch: How to Reach Deep City and What’s New

Everything added in The Deep, from the descent into Deep City to new rods, the Monstrous Cusk boss, and the Scrap-Bot companion.

Everything added in The Deep, from the descent into Deep City to new rods, the Monstrous Cusk boss, and the Scrap-Bot companion.

The Deep is Fisch’s largest expansion in some time, adding an underwater region built around a sunken ancient city ringed by abyssal trenches. Beneath the surface you will find more than 60 new fish species, four new rods, new harpoon guns and spears, a passive companion, and a multi-stage boss fight.

Quick answer: Equip diving gear and flippers, use the update’s Guide Me button, and keep swimming down into the ocean until you are teleported to Deep City. Redeem the code TheDeepIsVeryDeep first, since it is time-limited.

Redeem the code TheDeepIsVeryDeep first

Before diving in, open the codes menu and enter TheDeepIsVeryDeep. This code shipped with the update and will expire, so claim it before you start exploring. You know it worked when the reward is added to your account after confirming the entry.

Gear you need before the descent

Reaching Deep City takes preparation. You cannot make the descent without diving gear and flippers equipped. A Tide Breaker greatly improves your movement underwater, and a good oxygen tank is strongly recommended for the long dive down.

How to reach Deep City

Gear up with diving equipment and flippers, then activate the Guide Me button attached to the update. This points you toward the correct part of the ocean.
Keep traveling deeper into the ocean along that heading. Once you go far enough down, the game teleports you to the region.
When you arrive, you will see the underwater city below you. Head into the city districts to refill your oxygen while you explore. You know you have arrived when the city becomes visible beneath you after the teleport.

Repair the Deep Survey Device

One of your first tasks after arriving is sorting out the Deep Survey Device. Open your accessories and you will see it listed as inactive. It needs to be repaired before you can use it.

Once it is fixed and equipped, you can walk along the seafloor in low gravity instead of swimming. That changes how you move through the deeper parts of the region and makes the far sections far easier to reach.

Restore Sector Beacons to make exploring safer

Work with Chief Engineer Nereus to synthesize beacon cores and restore the outer beacon towers spread across the region. Each beacon you restore permanently lights up its sector and lowers fish hostility in that area. Over time this makes moving through The Deep significantly less dangerous.

The Gloomy Crevice and the MK II Survey Device

The Gloomy Crevice is the darkest and deepest part of The Deep. To navigate it safely you need the MK II Survey Device fitted with the Light Module. Rare deep-dwelling fish live down here, along with hidden secrets tucked into the furthest corners of the trench.

How to trigger and beat the Monstrous Cusk boss

Catch Faceless Cusks in the Gloomy Crevice to awaken the Monstrous Cusk. The encounter is a multi-stage harpoon pursuit as the creature swims toward Deep City.

Hit its flanks to slow it down, or aim for the head for maximum damage. Defeating it drops its tooth, a unique crafting material you cannot get anywhere else.

New rods, harpoon guns, and spears

The Deep adds four fishing rods along with a new set of ranged weapons. You can now attach bait directly to your ranged gear, which is a mechanic introduced with this update.

New fish and bestiaries

There are three new bestiaries to complete inside The Deep, covering more than 60 new fish species between them. Completing these fills out the region’s collection as you work through the different sectors.

Unlock the Scrap-Bot companion

Complete Tinkerer Orik’s quest to unlock Scrap-Bot, a passive companion that automatically retrieves materials and catches fish for you. If you want to farm materials efficiently without constant manual input, it is one of the update’s most useful additions.

Stat Chips and material drops

Catches in The Deep can drop raw materials, including rare variants. You can install Stat Chips onto your Survey Device to boost Harpoon Gun Accuracy, Range, Resilience, and Power.

Spare crafting materials can be sold directly to the Deep Merchant for extra C$, which gives you a steady way to turn leftover drops into currency.

With the code claimed, your gear equipped, and the Survey Device repaired, you have everything needed to make the dive, light up each sector, and take on the Monstrous Cusk at the bottom of the trench.
