The Division 2 Broken Rain Incursion: Requirements, Rewards, and Steel & Sons ACR

Everything that gates entry, how the exotic rifle drops, and what the launch and Event Pass rewards actually give you.

Broken Rain is the second Incursion in The Division 2, a four-player endgame PvE fight staged at the Steel Creek Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant in rural Pennsylvania. The Rikers have taken the facility, Hurricane Morgan is rolling in, and your squad has to breach the stronghold, kill the leaders holding it, and secure the dam before rising water tears the place apart. It runs on a dedicated Incursion difficulty and rewards coordination over raw damage.

Quick answer: Reach Level 40, bring a full four-player squad, and clear Broken Rain from the world map or matchmaking. Completing a full run rolls a chance at the Steel & Sons ACR from the final chest, and finishing within the first 24 hours earns both the Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver Arm Patches.

Broken Rain requirements and team setup

Nothing paywalls Broken Rain. It is part of the core game, with no expansion or separate purchase needed. The only real barrier is your build. This is endgame content tuned for coordinated groups, not a fresh Level 40 character.

You can technically enter without a pre-made group, but the encounters are designed around four-player coordination. Communication matters here. Watch for snipers that deal heavy damage, and agree on roles before an encounter starts if you are using matchmaking.

How to start the Broken Rain Incursion

Open the world map and select the All tab. Broken Rain appears as an Incursion mission marker with its objectives laid out on the map.

Launch the Incursion with your squad, or use the matchmaking menu to fill open slots. Bring an optimized loadout, since your team clears each objective as a group and a weak kit will slow the run.
Work through the run’s objectives, take down the rival Rikers leaders, and secure the reservoir. Once the site is secured, the run is complete and your reward chest becomes available.

Prototype Gear is normalized

You can bring Prototype items into Broken Rain, but every stat on them is fully normalized. Prototype Augments are disabled, and Prototype stats drop to their minimum values. A build that leans on Augment bonuses loses that extra damage and survivability the moment you load in.

This is the same system already used in Paradise Lost, Operation Iron Horse, and Operation Dark Hours. Build for the Incursion with standard gear and treat any Prototype piece as a base-stat item.

Steel & Sons ACR exotic rifle

The headline reward is the Steel & Sons ACR, an Exotic Rifle exclusive to this Incursion. Its Confirm & Execute talent turns steady body shots into a single amplified headshot payout, and it uses different values in PvE and PvP. The rifle is strongest against armored Rikers with exposed weak points, since destroying a weak point opens an additional damage window.

Hitting a different enemy removes all stacks, so keep fire on the same target to build toward the headshot. The mod slots are locked to a fixed set that favors precision fire.

How to farm the Steel & Sons ACR

There are two drop sources running in parallel every week, and using both beats repeating either one on its own. The final reward chest gives one roll per character per week, and repeat clears add unlimited boss-kill chances at the same drop rate.

SourceHow it works
Final reward chestOne roll per character per week, resets with the global weekly reset
Repeat clearsUnlimited attempts, identical drop chance on every run
Boss presenceYou must be present when the boss dies to be eligible
Clear speedCompletion time and individual performance do not change the chance

The efficient approach is to run Broken Rain once on every character you own to bank each weekly chest roll, then keep repeating on your main for the boss drops. Alt characters give you extra chest rolls a single character cannot access.

Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver Arm Patches

Two launch Arm Patches are tied to how fast you clear, not to performance inside the run. Complete Broken Rain within the first 24 hours to earn both the Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver patches. Complete it within the first 7 days to earn the Silver Beaver patch on its own.

The reward window began after post-maintenance servers came back online. Because maintenance finished ahead of schedule, an extra hour was added to the window to account for login queues.

Note: A flawless (deathless) end boss kill also carries a Backpack Trophy, and a Mask is tied to a flawless completion. Keep an eye out for beavers during the run for a hidden reward.

Broken Rain Event Pass rewards

The Broken Rain Event Pass is available through August 25 and is built around four JTF-themed outfits split across free and premium tracks. The free track also hands out gear and weapons to help you tackle the Incursion.

TrackRewards
FreeJTF Controller Outfit, JTF Commando Outfit, plus gear and weapons
PremiumJTF Enforcer Outfit, JTF Responder Outfit, 2 Exotic Caches, 1 Outfit Token

The premium track introduces Outfit Tokens, a new currency for the Store. One Outfit Token unlocks a full outfit even if you already own some of its individual pieces, so spend a token on an outfit you own no pieces of, since partial ownership does not reduce the cost. Look for the Outfit Token icon in the Store. When an outfit supports multiple currencies, you can choose between an Outfit Token, Premium Credits, or Textiles.

Loadout advice before you queue

The difficulty comes from mechanics, positioning, and coordination rather than enemy health. A single high-damage build will not carry a team that does not understand the objectives. Bring a mix of roles so you can adapt.

  • Run a reliable DPS build. Striker’s Battlegear remains a strong starting point for testing damage requirements.
  • Bring a healer for constant armor repair and quick revives, with Birdie’s Quick Fix and a Future Initiative setup working well.
  • Keep a tank build ready as a backup for encounters where kiting enemies buys the team room.
  • Carry a revive option such as a Reviver Hive so one mistake does not end the run.
  • Use voice chat and prioritize a clean clear over a fast one.

Once your squad secures the reservoir and the run registers as complete, open the chest and check your patch progress. If the Golden Beaver did not unlock, the most common reason is a clear that landed outside the launch window, since neither patch depends on how the run went, only how quickly it finished.
