The Division 2: How to Get the Sarru Exotic Backpack and Its Decoy King Talent

Everything you need to farm the Sarru from the Phoebe Marauder and how its lunar-phase damage bonus works.

Everything you need to farm the Sarru from the Phoebe Marauder and how its lunar-phase damage bonus works.

The Sarru is a new exotic backpack tied to the Red Moon Rising event in The Division 2, added with the Red Moon Rising Title Update (TUY8S3.1). It carries a lunar-themed talent that scales all of your damage over time and turns the Decoy skill into a core part of a DPS setup.

Quick answer: Kill the XB-35 “Phoebe” Marauder world boss in the active PvE Dark Zone during Red Moon Rising for a chance at the Sarru. It is an RNG drop, so repeat the fight until it appears.

Where the Sarru drops in The Division 2

The XB-35 “Phoebe” Marauder is the Sarru’s sole source. This quadcopter world boss patrols the Red Moon Rising Dark Zone, which is DZ South during week one. The PvE zone changes every week, cycling through East, South, and West; check your Washington, D.C. map to see which one is currently active.

The same boss also drops the Vertigo exotic LMG, so both new exotics share this farm. The Sarru is not sold by vendors, cannot be pulled from exotic caches, and is not available through targeted loot in Countdown, Retaliation, or open-world activities during the event.

RNG determines whether the Sarru drops, so expect to take down Phoebe more than once.

How to spawn and farm the Phoebe Marauder faster

Phoebe appears on a base cooldown of 60 minutes. You can shorten that wait by killing enemies inside the Dark Zone, which cuts the remaining timer by 20% each time you clear a group. Working through landmarks with a squad is the fastest way to force the boss to spawn.

Enter the active PvE Dark Zone through a checkpoint and head toward the nearest landmarks marked on your map.

Clear the enemies at each landmark. Every cleared group reduces the remaining spawn timer, and finishing landmarks also drops other event loot along the way.

When Phoebe spawns, a notification appears and its location is marked on the map. Fast travel or route to the marker to reach the boss quickly.

Run in a four-player group with loot sharing. If the Sarru drops for a teammate, they can trade it to you, which multiplies your effective drop chances per kill.

How to beat the XB-35 “Phoebe” Marauder

Phoebe is a flying quadcopter with three rotors, and it protects itself behind a white damage-immunity bubble. Only one rotor is exposed at a time. You strip its armor by shooting the rotor that is not covered by the bubble, and that vulnerable rotor keeps switching, so you have to keep tracking which one is open to peel away all of its armor.

If you want to skip the immunity phase entirely, equip the Iron Will exotic chest piece. Headshot damage dealt by its Resolved talent bypasses Phoebe’s damage-immunity bubble, which lets you cheese the fight.

Sarru core attributes

Because the Sarru boosts both weapon and skill output, it rolls with three core attributes instead of a single red core, similar to the Memento and NinjaBike backpacks. The three cores are:

  • Weapon Damage
  • Armor
  • Skill Tier

The Sarru drops without a blueprint, so you cannot craft it or reconfigure it into a perfect roll. If your drop rolls poorly, the better move is to farm Phoebe again rather than spend resources trying to optimize a weak piece.

Decoy King talent explained

The Sarru’s talent is called Decoy King, and its item description reads “This decoy will fool even a god.” While you are in combat, the Moon cycles through its phases every 5 seconds, moving through all eight phases. Each phase changes how much your damage is amplified.

The amplifier starts at 5% during a New Moon and climbs by 5% each phase until it peaks at 25% during a Full Moon, then decreases back down as the Moon returns to New Moon and restarts the cycle. The bonus applies to all of your damage, both weapons and skills.

Moon phase stateDamage amplification
New Moon5%
Rising phases+5% per phase
Full Moon (peak)25%
Waning phasesDecreases back toward 5%

The payoff comes at the Full Moon. Deploying a Decoy during a Full Moon grants it Overcharge, giving it maximum threat so enemy AI is forced to target it, and it also pauses the Moon cycle for 10 seconds. That keeps you locked at the 25% peak while the Decoy soaks aggro, which is why the Decoy is treated as a mandatory skill for this build.

Getting the Sarru after Red Moon Rising ends

The Red Moon Rising event runs between September 24 and November 3, 2026. While it is active, the Sarru drops only from the Marauder. When the event concludes, the Sarru joins the general exotic loot pool, so you can target-farm it like other exotics. If you get a poor roll now, you can try for a better one later.

You will know the farm worked when the Sarru appears in the loot from a Phoebe kill or is traded to you by a party member who looted it. Since it has no blueprint, the attribute values shown on the dropped piece are final for that item, so inspect each drop and keep the best roll you find.
