Golden Bullet is back as the season-end global event for The Division 2’s Year 8 Season 2, and it runs from August 18, 2026 through August 25, 2026. It is opt-in, it rewrites how every firefight opens, and it pays out in stars that unlock ten tiers of caches — including two Exotic Caches at the top.
Quick answer: Activate the Golden Bullet modifier in the Seasons menu, then kill the enemy with the charging or fully charged golden icon over its head to steal the buff, and keep killing to refresh it — challenge completions award stars that unlock Tiers 1 through 10, capped by an Exotic Cache at 50 stars.
How the Golden Bullet buff works in combat
With the modifier on, one enemy in a hostile group starts building a golden bullet, marked by an icon charging above its head. If that enemy finishes the charge and lands a shot on you, it hurts badly. The whole loop is built around not letting that happen.
Kill that enemy — during the charge or after it completes — and the buff transfers to you for a few seconds. While it is up you get a weapon damage boost, a higher rate of fire, and an instant reload on kills. Every kill you land during the window refreshes the timer, so a clean room clear can keep the buff running from the first enemy to the last.
That refresh behavior is the whole reason this event is a farming event. Open-world encounters, control points, and main or invaded missions all feed the same loop, and mission areas are affected by the modifier just like the open world.

Golden Bullet is not automatic. You turn it on from the Global Event screen inside the Seasons menu, and you can toggle it whenever you want. In a group, the leader’s setting decides the state for everyone, and matchmaking will pair you with other agents who also have it enabled.
The important catch: it cannot run alongside the Y8S2 seasonal global modifier, Cleaning Up The Streets. Only one can be active at a time. If your current build leans on the seasonal modifier for damage or sustain, swap loadouts before you head out to farm stars, or you will notice the drop immediately.
Note: global event effects apply across Washington D.C., Lower Manhattan, and mission areas. The Dark Zone, Conflict, Expeditions, and Raids are not affected, so time spent in those activities does not feed the event.
All Golden Bullet rewards and star costs (Tiers 1-10)
Stars accumulate from challenge completions and unlock ten reward tiers. The ramp is gentle early and back-loads the good stuff, with an Optimization Cache at 35 and Exotic Caches at 40 and 50.
| Tier | Reward | Stars |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Named Item Cache | 0 |
| 2 | Gear Crafting Cache | 5 |
| 3 | Weapon Crafting Cache | 10 |
| 4 | Season Cache | 15 |
| 5 | Optimization Cache | 20 |
| 6 | Named Item Cache | 25 |
| 7 | Season Cache | 30 |
| 8 | Optimization Cache | 35 |
| 9 | Exotic Cache | 40 |
| 10 | Exotic Cache | 50 |
Rewards are claimed from the Seasons vendor at the Base of Operations or straight from the Seasons menu. Anything you leave unclaimed when the event ends on August 25 gets pushed to your in-game mailbox, so you will not lose a cache by logging off — but you will lose access to the vendor screen itself.

Day 1 challenges and star values
New challenges drop each day across the first four days of the event. The Day 1 set is worth 14 stars in total, and most of it completes passively if you simply play with the modifier on.
| Challenge | Stars |
|---|---|
| Eliminate 50 hostiles while they are charging the Golden Bullet | 4 |
| Eliminate 100 hostiles while they have the Golden Bullet | 3 |
| Use the Golden Bullet to eliminate 100 hostiles | 2 |
| Destroy 50 hostile weak points | 2 |
| Eliminate 50 elite Black Tusk | 2 |
| Complete any Main Mission on Hard Difficulty or above | 1 |
The two that trip people up are the charging kills and the weak point destructions. Charging kills require you to shoot the marked enemy before the icon fills, which means keeping a fast-swapping or high-DPS weapon ready rather than committing to a long-range setup that arrives too late.
Fastest star farm: Bank Headquarters Invaded
Because the Day 1 list mixes weak points, elite Black Tusk kills, and general hostile eliminations, the efficient move is a mission that serves all three at once. Bank Headquarters on Invaded difficulty does exactly that — dense Black Tusk elites, plenty of weak points, and enough sustained combat to keep the Golden Bullet buff chained.
The recommended loadout leans on a Negotiator’s Dilemma core with the Strega exotic AR as primary, a Lexington named AR with Killer as secondary, and Quick Step with Sport Mode as the sidearm. Run Gunner as your specialization, with Decoy and Reviver Hive in the skill slots.
| Slot | Item and core | Attributes and talent |
|---|---|---|
| Mask | Negotiator’s Dilemma, Red | Critical Damage; mod: Critical Chance |
| Backpack | Negotiator’s Dilemma, Red | Critical Damage; mod: Critical Damage |
| Chest | Palisade, Blue | Critical Damage, Critical Chance; mod: Critical Chance; Obliterate |
| Gloves | Overdogs, Red | Critical Damage; Weakest Link |
| Holster | Negotiator’s Dilemma, Red | Critical Damage |
| Kneepads | Negotiator’s Dilemma, Red | Critical Damage |

The gameplay loop is straightforward. Chew through the low-tier enemies first to build Strega stacks while Overdogs’ Weakest Link adds damage, then turn the stacked damage onto elites and named bosses that Hostile Negotiations has already softened. The Palisade chest contributes 10% Armor on Kill, and Gunner adds another 10%, which is what keeps you standing when a charged golden bullet does connect.
If the buff never seems to trigger, check the modifier state first — Golden Bullet silently stays off whenever Cleaning Up The Streets is the active global modifier, and it does nothing at all inside the Dark Zone, Conflict, Expeditions, or Raids. Confirm it is enabled in the Seasons menu, watch for the charging icon over an enemy’s head in your next firefight, and the buff indicator in your HUD will tell you it landed.
