The Kortz Center Heist Hard Mode Blocks Sewer and Train Tunnels

A hidden change seals off Los Santos' best police-evasion routes, but a stealth chopper still gets you out clean.

A hidden change seals off Los Santos’ best police-evasion routes, but a stealth chopper still gets you out clean.

The Kortz Center Heist arrived in GTA Online on July 14, 2026, tasking you with slipping into the hilltop gallery in Pacific Bluffs, lifting Albert Crisp’s artwork, and escaping. Hard mode makes that escape far tougher through a change Rockstar never spelled out. When you flee with a wanted level in hard mode, the sewer and train tunnels under Los Santos are sealed off.

Quick answer: In hard mode, you cannot duck into the sewer or train tunnels to shake the cops. To leave without fighting through the tunnel block, steal the Annihilator Stealth chopper during setup and use it as your getaway vehicle.

Why the blocked tunnels matter

Dropping into the sewers or train tunnels has long been one of the most reliable tricks for losing a wanted level. Inside them, police helicopters lose sight of you, and neither ground vehicles nor police NPCs can spawn to chase you down. That combination makes them a near-guaranteed reset button on the cops.

Hard mode takes that option away. The tunnels are closed during the getaway, so the usual dive-and-wait tactic simply does not work. The change surfaced on social media and stacked on top of an already heated response to the update’s payout cuts.

GTA dataminer @Lucas7yoshi_RS later confirmed that the block applies only in hard mode, describing it as a deliberate choice by Rockstar to raise the difficulty rather than a bug.

The tunnel seal is not the only hard-mode wrinkle. The finale also adds a tighter laser room and more aggressive guard patrols, so the whole run demands cleaner execution than the normal difficulty.

Getaway options that still work

The heist gives you three getaway vehicles to plan around. Two keep you on the ground and still have to deal with the sealed tunnels, while the third lets you skip the problem entirely.

Annihilator StealthAir escape; avoids the blocked tunnels completely.

If you would rather not fight through the tunnel restriction at all, the Annihilator Stealth is the answer. It flies you out over the top of the police response instead of forcing you through the streets.

How to secure the Annihilator Stealth

Head to Fort Zancudo, the military base in the northwest of the map. This is where the chopper is stored.
Enter the hangar and take the Annihilator Stealth using a truck cab. This step is what unlocks it as your getaway option for the finale.
During the finale escape, an NPC named Pernell Moss pilots the chopper for you. Keep eating snacks to top up your health while police choppers attack, since Moss handles the flying while you take fire on the way to safety.

Choosing the chopper sidesteps the sealed tunnels because your route out is entirely in the air. You know it worked once Moss reaches the drop-off and the wanted level clears, ending the finale.

Hard mode raises the reward alongside the difficulty, with the primary target paying between $334,950 and $529,375 plus secondary loot, and a larger first-completion bonus each week. But the tunnel block is the single change that most disrupts old habits, so plan your exit around the Annihilator Stealth if you want the smoothest run.
