The Portal is a deliberately slow-paced Roblox MMORPG where progress is earned rather than handed to you. Your first big decision happens at the very start, because the food you eat sets your race, and your race shapes which class you should build toward. Get that pairing right early and the rest of the grind gets a lot smoother.
Quick answer: Eat Milk for Human, Meat for Beastman, or Mushroom for Elf. Human suits Warrior, Corrupted Human suits Defender, and Elf or High Elf suits Enchanter and Cleric. Redeem codes from the Settings gear before you commit to a class.

Active codes and how to redeem them
Codes are the fastest free boost the game offers, so claim them before you sink hours into a build. Enter them exactly as written, since they can be case-sensitive.

Add to Google Preferences →Starting food sets your race
The three starting food items are not flavor choices. Each one locks in a race with its own stat bonuses, so pick the one that lines up with the class you plan to play.
| Food | Race | Stat bonuses |
|---|---|---|
| Milk | Human | +STR, +VIT |
| Meat | Beastman | +AGI, +DEX |
| Mushroom | Elf | +INT, +WIS |
After you choose, complete the race-specific tutorial. It teaches the basic mechanics and hands you your first materials, including a seed you will need later.
Sub-race roll chances
Every race has a 10% chance to roll into a rare sub-race with stronger stats. You cannot force these, so a rare roll is a bonus rather than something to build around.
| Base race | Roll outcomes |
|---|---|
| Human | 90% Human, 10% Corrupted Human |
| Beastman | 45% Beastman Cat, 45% Beastman Wolf, 10% Beastman Fox |
| Elf | 90% Elf, 10% High Elf |

Best race for each class
The four core classes each lean on different stats, which is why race choice matters so much. Below is what each class does, its key stats, and the race that fits it best.
Warrior
A high physical damage class with balanced physical and magic defense but low HP. Main stats are STR and DEX, with VIT and AGI as secondary stats. Its passive is Sword Mastery or Dagger Mastery, and its active skills are Blade Fury, Battle Cry, Bash, and Blade Circuit. The Human race, with its +STR and +VIT, is the natural pairing.
Defender
A tank class with low physical damage but high physical defense and HP, offset by low magic defense. Main stats are VIT, STR, and WIS. Its passive is Sword Mastery or Blunt Mastery, and its active skills are Whirlwind, Iron Wall, Bash, and Timber Charge. Defender is at its best on the Corrupted Human sub-race.
Enchanter
A high magic damage class with normal magic defense but low HP and physical defense. Main stats are INT and DEX, with VIT as a secondary stat. Its passive is Staff Mastery, and its active skills are Entangle, Enchant Weapon, Meteor Shower, Sacrifice, and Mana Shield. Elf or High Elf, thanks to their +INT and +WIS, is the ideal fit.
Cleric
The support class, with low magic damage, high magic defense, and low HP and physical defense. Main stats are WIS and INT, with VIT as a secondary stat. Its passive is Staff Mastery, and its active skills are Heal, Bless, Holy Wounds, Aurora Wave, Sacrifice, and Mana Shield. Like the Enchanter, Cleric pairs best with Elf or High Elf.
| Class | Main stats | Best race |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | STR, DEX | Human |
| Defender | VIT, STR, WIS | Corrupted Human |
| Enchanter | INT, DEX | Elf / High Elf |
| Cleric | WIS, INT | Elf / High Elf |

Job changes, Reroll Mirrors, money, and the wheat quest
A few systems trip up new players, and one of them is permanent. Here is what to know before you make a change you cannot undo.
Ultimate moves are deleted on a job change. When you switch jobs, your ultimate moves do not carry over and are permanently removed. Only change classes once you are certain, because there is no way to recover those abilities.
Reroll Mirrors come from the shop. You get Reroll Mirrors by redeeming shop rewards or buying them directly. They are the tool for changing a roll rather than something you stumble onto in the world.
There is no shortcut to money. The economy is intentionally slow. You earn by gathering berries or scrap metal, so plan on steady collecting instead of hunting for a quick payout.
The wheat quest rewards patience. It uses the single seed from your tutorial plus one from the quest itself. Let the crop grow on its own timeline without rushing it, and the quest resolves as intended.
Lock your race to your intended class from the first bite, claim every active code, and treat job changes as one-way doors. Do those three things and The Portal’s slow burn works in your favor instead of against you.
