The Shining Storm Rages is a Free Challenge Quest in Monster Hunter Wilds that drops you into the Windward Plains against an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau. It first ran in May 2025 and is live again from June 9 to June 23, 2026 (ET), so you have a tight window to set your best time and collect the rewards. The goal is simple to state and hard to do: slay Rey Dau as fast as you can.

Quick answer: Reach Hunter Rank 50, accept The Shining Storm Rages at the Arena Counter in the Grand Hub, and slay Arch-Tempered Rey Dau in under 13 minutes to earn the A-rank pendant. Capturing does not count, so you must kill it.

The Shining Storm Rages requirements and quest details

This is an 8-star quest that you take on through the Arena Counter inside the Grand Hub. To open that hub, you need Hunter Rank 16 and a conversation with Tetsuzan in Suja. The quest itself, though, sits behind a higher rank wall and a one-time prerequisite.

You can only see the quest after you have slain or captured an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau at least once. Once it is in your list, you can run it as many times as you like during the event window, and only your best recorded time counts toward the pendant tiers.

Time rankings and pendant rewards

The reward you keep depends entirely on your fastest clear. There are three time thresholds, and each one unlocks a different Rey Dau pendant. Pendants are distributed after the event period, not the instant you finish.

RankTimePendant
AUnder 13’00”Rey Dau: Mark of Mastery
BUnder 20’00”Rey Dau: Mark of Bravery
CUnder 50’00”Rey Dau: Mark of Contest

An A-rank clear awards all three pendants since it satisfies every lower threshold too. The Mark of Contest is granted just for completing the hunt once, regardless of time. Alongside the pendants, the quest hands out Rey Dau crafting materials such as Boltgem, Bolthorn, Carapace, Fulgurtalon, Plate, Scale +, Tail, the Rey Dau Certificate S and Gamma, plus Ancient Orbs, an Ancient Weapon Fragment, and Armor Spheres.

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau weaknesses and what works

Both raw and elemental weapons perform well here, so you can lead with whatever you are comfortable using. Bowguns tend to post the fastest times, but no weapon type is a wrong pick for this fight. For trapping and stagger tools, the monster reacts to some items and ignores others.

Add Stun Resistance Level 3 to your set to cancel the passive stun from Rey Dau’s Thunder element. Agitator, Coalescence, and Partbreaker are strong offensive picks that pair well with the constant aggression Rey Dau throws at you.

How to clear The Shining Storm Rages under 13 minutes

Unlock the Bone Oasis camp before you start. It sits in the eastern part of the Windward Plains, and starting from it cuts more than a minute off your run. If you do not have it yet, set up a camp there first.
Eat or drink your buffs before the timer pressure builds. Take Demondrug and Armorskin for the attack and defense boost, and pack Flash Pods and Pitfall Traps as your only required items.
Use the pillar at Rey Dau’s nest at the very start of the hunt to deal a large burst of opening damage. This sets the pace for an A-rank time.
Focus the wings and the tip of the tail, since both take wounds easily. Wounds appear on Rey Dau after it performs a charged railgun attack, and only after two railgun attacks if you have already been dealing damage. Capitalize on those openings to keep your DPS high.
If your weapon has an offset attack, slip it in between Rey Dau’s wing swipes for free damage. Hit the horns right after a railgun attack lands.
Hold your mount for the second half of the fight, when Rey Dau settles into a long enraged state. That gives you a clean window for mounted damage rather than wasting it early.

Note: Skip Support Hunters for this quest. They scale the monster’s HP, and the extra damage they contribute does not make up for it. Their times still count, but a solo or full-party run is usually faster overall.

How to confirm your clear and rank

The hunt ends when Rey Dau is slain, and your clear time is recorded against the three ranking thresholds. If you finish under 13 minutes, your run registers as A rank and locks in the Mark of Mastery along with the lower-tier pendants. Beat the timer at 20 minutes for B rank, and simply finishing before the 50-minute cap secures the Mark of Contest.

A few things will void a run, so keep them in mind. Fainting three times fails the quest, as does letting the 50-minute timer run out. Capturing Rey Dau does not complete the objective, which means a captured monster gives you no clear time at all. Because only your best time matters during the event, you can keep re-running it to push from C toward A before The Shining Storm Rages leaves the rotation on June 23.
